Donna Kelce Shared How She Uses ‘A Little Nostalgia’ To Hype Up Sons Travis & Jason Before Games

Like every mom, Donna Kelce is the biggest cheerleader for her NFL-playing sons Travis and Jason. She attends every football game, bakes them homemade chocolate chip cookies, and even wore an iconic outfit to show her support when Travis’s team the Chiefs played Jason’s team the Eagles in the Super Bowl 2023. Now, she’s revealed an extra special thing she does in private to hype them up before a game, and it might be the sweetest thing we’ve ever read. (It turns out, you will always need your mom!)

The Night Before

“I try not to bother them on game day because they’re a little busy and I don’t think I’m going to get through, but usually I try,” Mama Kelce told TODAY. She explained how she goes about this: “Like, the night before, I will text my sons and will give them a little encouragement, send them a little funny picture of when they were younger, depending on what team they’re playing with or whatever. I go back and get a little nostalgia.”

OK, that’s adorable. I’m sure those little pictures or heartfelt notes from their mom mean more to her sons than they would ever say. It’s like packing notes in your child’s lunchbox to make them smile, except your child is all grown up now.

Donna is getting ready to go to the Super Bowl again, this time to watch Travis and the Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. “I really am [excited],” Donna shared. “It is going to be a dream to go back-to-back like this, back to the Super Bowl. And (I’m) really excited.”

Mama’s Love

Prior to the Super Bowl last year, Donna sat down with SheKnowsto dish on her complicated feelings watching her boys compete against each other. “One’s gonna come out a broken person, you know. It’s difficult when you put in that much effort, that many hours, at anything … and to not get the end result you want is very frustrating, of course,” she told us. “So there’s nothing that I can say or help them with, to make it any better.”

“All I can do is tell them I love them,” she added. What sweet advice!

Sweet Grandma

Donna’s daughter-in-law, Kylie Kelce, also confirmed how amazing she is in a new interview. Kylie, who is married to Jason and shares daughters Wyatt, 4, Elliotte, 2, and Bennett, 11 months, told TODAYthat Donna is a very involved grandma.

“She will be in town and she will watch the girls for us if we want to go out to dinner, or if I need to drive Jason down to the hotel before a game. And then she just sort of just gets in and rolls her sleeves up,” Kylie said about Donna, whom the kids call “Dee Dee.”

Kylie added, “She will read book after book after book with no complaints and, honestly, just seeing the way that she interacts with the girls is so sweet.”

For Donna, watching three girls is a break! “She could do our girls with her eyes closed — because it’s not Travis and Jason,” Kylie joked.
