At the 2024 SAG Awards, mother-daughter moments have been the biggest part of the night. And we can’t talk about mother-daughter moments without discussing Elizabeth Debicki’s shoutout to her mama!
In case you missed it, Debicki won the 2024 SAG Awards award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series for her role of Princess Diana in The Crown, beating out Jennifer Aniston, Bella Ramsey, Keri Russell, and Sarah Snook. When Debicki won the award, she truly looked so shocked about winning, and she talked about that during her speech.
“Truly, I was not expecting this. People say that, and I really am not,” she said, thanking her Crown castmates, SAG-AFTRA, and the fellow nominees. “The women in my category, I watch with total awe… being nominated next to you is incredible. To my beautiful Crown family and so many of you here tonight. It is a joy to work with you. This job is such a gift.”
She also discussed how elated she feels when she gets a job, and ended her impromptu speech on such a sweet note: she ended her speech by shouting out to her mother, saying, “It’s my mum’s birthday. Happy birthday, Mum, thank you so much.”
We’re sure that her mother is over the moon that her daughter won the award, and that she took the time to shout her out in her speech! Happy birthday to her mother!
Not much is known about Debicki’s parents, but we do know, per MindFood, that she and Debicki’s father were ballet dancers who met during a show, which greatly influenced Debicki. And oh yeah, she gave birth to the coolest actor, Debicki!
