Adam Sandler Shares the Adorable Parenting Reason Taylor Swift Makes Him ‘A Little Jumpy’

All parents want to seem cool in front of their kids, don’t they? I definitely do — and Adam Sandler does too. He opened up about trying to impress his daughters Sadie, 17, and Sunny, 15, who he shares with wife Jackie Sandler, around one of their biggest popstar idols: Taylor Swift.

Trying to Be Cool

Conan O’Brien asked the Spaceman star if there was any celebrity he got nervous about on his Sirius XM’s Conan O’Brien Needs a Friendpodcast this week, per PEOPLE. “You know what, Taylor Swift, because what she means to my kids, I get a little jumpy. Just cause I don’t wanna blow it for my kids,” Sandler responded.

“So I’m a little like, ‘Taylor, Taylor,’ like I talk a little too loud or something. I don’t stay as cool as I can,” he added.

“You yell her name outside her house. Taylor!” O’Brien quipped.

“Talk to me,” Sandler added with a laugh.

“Speak to me. Yeah, I can see that. Yeah. She’s this whole other level now,” O’Brien continued.

“People talk about The Beatles of it all and her. I mean, so many smash hits. There’s not a word my kids don’t know,” Sandler shared. He added, “I know them too, by the way. But they know them inside and out. But it’s, just remember The Beatles, every song on the record, you knew? That’s Taylor Swift too. You just, there’s not a song you skip. You go, that one’s pretty damn cool.”

Meeting Taylor Swift

Sunny and Sadie got to meet the “Karma” singer herself when they were invited to the Eras Tour Film premiere in Los Angeles in Oct. 2023, along with their dad. In a viral video from the event, shared by Deadline Hollywood, the “Anti-Hero” singer stops to give the girls a hug then pose for a photo with them, taken by Sandler.

Working with His Family

He’s gotta take all the cool points he gets, because even casting them in movies isn’t doing the trick. At the Spaceman premiere this week, he told reporters that despite spending time with his teen daughters on set, they still don’t think he’s cool. “They still don’t talk to you. They go do their thing,” he said, per PEOPLE. He added, “They do the best they can, and then they go do their life. I am on the side going, ‘Love you.’ I say I love you a lot to them.”

Sandler’s daughters have starred in several of his movies, including the animated Netflix film Leo. During a Nov. 2023 appearance on Extra: The Podcast, he shared how much fun he has filming with his family.

“My kids grew up hanging out on sets, talking movies, being in movies… since they were young,” he said. “This is kind of what they talked about, this is what they want to do. Who knows if it stays, but right now, this is their passion. And we have fun, the four of us, talking shop.”
