Ewan McGregor & Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Son Had a Full-Blown Meltdown When Meeting This Iconic Character

When your parents are Ewan McGregor, who portrayed Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who portrayed Heya Syndulla in Ahsoka, chances are, you’ll be obsessed with Star Wars, and that’s exactly the case with their son Laurie.

During the March 11 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Winstead and McGregor revealed that their son Laurie adores the Star Wars universe, and his favorite character is Grogu, also known as Baby Yoda.

“There was a big build-up to it because he’s got several Grogu stuffed animals that he loves. I mean, since he was born to now,” Winstead said. “He loves them. He wants to take them everywhere.”

So they wanted to surprise Laurie by meeting the actual Baby Yoda. “We were like, ‘Laurie, you’re going to meet the real Grogu!’ And he was like, a year and a half at this point. Everybody was there to make this happen to, like, bring Grogu to life in front of him … and it went really badly,” she said.

And what was supposed to be wholesome turned into a full-blown meltdown. “He did not like it,” McGregor said, with Winstead adding that the whole experience was “too much” and “too weird” for him, and Laurie “screamed the whole time.”

For those who don’t know, Winstead and McGregor started dating in late 2017 after meeting on the set of the show Fargo. They later married in April 2022, and back in 2021, they welcomed their son named Laurie.

These two keep their family lives as private as can be, but back in 2022, McGregor did talk about how much he adores being in the Star Wars universe with Winstead.

“She doesn’t need any advice from me, but it was kind of cool that when it came up and she was starting to think about it — we thought it was amazing to both be in this world together,” he said to Entertainment Tonight. “It’s something that will [always] be with us. It’s not something that ever goes away.”
