Bruce Willis is being showered with love for his 69th birthday today! The Die Hard star has received several tributes from loved ones, including his eldest daughter Rumer, 35, who he shares with ex-wife Demi Moore. Grab the tissues — her heart-melting throwback pictures and moving letter to her dad will leave you bawling.
The first photo features a baby Rumer touching her dad’s head (which was full of hair at that point!). Willis smiles at his baby girl, as she gazes at something off-camera, looking like an exact copy of her dad. In another photo, Willis holds a baby Rumer at the pool, as they both turn to make faces at the camera. There are photos of baby Rumer napping on her dad, being silly with her dad, and more, as well as one of an adult Rumer hugging Willis now. You can just feel the love emanating between these two.
Rumer’s Love Letter
“Oh Daddio, to be loved by you is such a gift,” the Sorority Row star captioned the post. “You are the funniest, most tender, charming, out of this world silly talented and magical papa.” Aww!
Rumer shared that she took a trip down memory lane as she was finding pictures to post for her dad’s birthday today. “Looking through these photos this morning I am just filled with the deepest gratitude that we chose to spend this life together,” Rumer said. “I am your first baby and man sometimes I wish I could be tiny enough to just cozy up on your chest again and laugh and cuddle you.”
“I love you so deep in my bones I don’t know how my muscles hold them,” she continued. “You are the greatest papa I could ever hope for. Thank you for your generosity, your silliness and heart.”
“Lou loves you so big,” she added, referencing her 11-month-old daughter Louetta “Lou” Isley, who she shares with boyfriend Derek Richard Thomas.
Willis’s wife Emma Heming Willis commented on the post, “This is beautiful Rumer. Love you both so much ❤.”
“Bruce is the definition of a cool daddio😎 ❤️,” someone else wrote.
Rumer shared a more recent video of him dancing with Moore on her Instagram story today, writing, “This is you in all your silliness and glory and I love it.”
She shared another photo of her dad with her daughter. “With baby Lou,” she wrote over a picture of Willis smiling at the baby girl, who is dressed in just a diaper and smiling at her grandpa from the couch.
Bruce’s Dementia Diagnosis
The Ghost star was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in Feb. 2023 and has remained largely out of the public eye since. His family, including daughters Rumer, Scout, 32, Tallulah, 30, with Moore, and Mabel, 11, and Evelyn, 9, with wife Heming Willis, have been very supportive.
Moore gave an update on a Jan. 2024 appearance on Good Morning America. “I think given the givens, he’s doing very well,” the Charlie’s Angels star said in response to a question on Willis’s health. She continued, “What I’ll share is what I say to my children, which is, it’s important to just meet them where they’re at and not hold on to what isn’t, but what is. Because there’s great beauty and sweetness and loving and joy out of that.”
Scout’s Sweet Note
Today, Scout shared a tribute to the Sixth Sense star as well. Alongside several pictures of her dad, Scout wrote, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE KING. 3/19/24.”
“Wild how so little has changed even though so much has changed,” she continued. “my dad is one of my best friends, perhaps now on a deeper level than ever honestly. I cherish his affection and the immense freedom with which he’s always loved us. The third slide is when I did this super fancy debutante ball, my mom made me take waltz lessons, but then when they had my dad and I start the evening dancing, i asked if he knew what he was doing and he said ‘just go with it’ and we did. He swung me around that fancy ballroom with Jersey boy confidence and a mischievous elegance that I pray every day I inherited.”
Scout continued, “A tender, moody, beautiful, very Piscean man, whose depth of love for his family can only be felt, not articulated. Any words I use would be woefully inadequate.” She also thanked fans “for loving my papa” and “sharing your stories of what he means to you.” “Happy happy birthday to the GOAT,” Scout added.
Emma Heming Willis’s Note
In Heming Willis’s tribute post, she shared a photo of Bruce with a baby. She wrote a message to the fans: “Just like you, we simply adore him. What you might not know, but maybe you could imagine, that being wrapped in his arms is the safest place in this whole wide world.”
“He’s a true gentle-man. With so much love to give and share,” Heming Willis continued. “That’s what I get to see, his true core. I can tell you, it’s so pure and ever so good. Happy Birthday my love. You are the gift that keeps giving 💞”
