Zoe Saldaña and Marco Perego have been raising three boys, and now that they’re growing up, they’re all about nurturing their curiosity. We’ve seen them cheer on their boys while they’re playing soccer and Saldaña even talked to us about how she and her sons try to play video games as a family. Now, she just divulged that to ensure they won’t be addicted to screens, they make gaming a family event.
In a recent interview with People, she talked about how when she and Perego saw the signs of their sons liking video games, they went into action.
“A big part of parenting is nurturing their curiosity, fostering their opinions, and meeting them where they’re at,” she said. “So when my kids started to express interest in video games, I knew it was something we couldn’t ignore.”
“The boys now are going to school and all of their friends are gaming, so every time they would come home they were just like, ‘Why can’t we do it? Why can’t we do it?’ They have certain needs and if I’m not meeting them, they do feel that they’re left behind and they do feel that they’re isolated at school,” she added. “So it was important my husband and I figured out a way to not only make it positive but to make it a family activity.”
She finished by saying, “That’s why we’re all playing together. They’re not just in a corner, sucked into a screen; we’re all involved.”
Many parents have started employing screen rules for their kids. Celebrity parents like Megan Fox and Penelope Cruz have talked about how they try to limit screen time as much as possible, and others have spoken about limiting screen time. But we really love Saldaña’s way of making screen time a more family-based activity.
For those who don’t know, Saldaña and Perego share three sons together: twins Cy and Bowie, 9, and Zen, 7.
