It happened! The moment so many had all been waiting for! The solar eclipse hit the United States, and for families in high-visibility areas, it meant a lot of fun moments as they watched the moon cross in front of the sun’s path.
Well, mostly fun moments.
It’s all fun and games until someone commits the ultimate solar eclipse party foul … taking off their glasses. And when kids are in attendance, that’s bound to happen.
Brittany Mahomes posted a video on her Instagram Story (see it HERE before it disappears) of her friends and family watching the eclipse in her backyard. Sterling — her 2-year-old daughter, who she shares with husband Patrick Mahomes — starts to walk out from under their covered patio space, and Patrick kicks it into high gear.
The Super Bowl-winning quarterback — who also shares 1-year-old son Bronze with his high school sweetheart — runs to block his daughter’s view of the sun. (Because ICYMI: Looking directly at the sun during the eclipse is really dangerous.)
The quick and effective move was an adorable display of Patrick in Protective Dad Mode (as opposed to Cuddly Dad Mode) and we love to see it. He didn’t want any harm to come to his little girl and her blue eyes that he loves so much.
Don’t worry, though, Sterling did get to see the eclipse under the safety of some glasses. In one video that the NFL reshared, Patrick holds Sterling in his arms and they both look at the sky in wonder. It’s oddly reminiscent of their iconic photo from the 2024 Super Bowl.
“DAAAAAAAAAANG,” Patrick said.
As for Bronze? We’re sure his dad would have blocked his vision too, but the little guy was apparently totally uninterested. In the “DAAAAAAAAAANG” video, Bronze can be seen running off in the other direction, and in a photo on Brittany’s Instagram Story, the not-so-little guy is giving his mom some borderline side eye. It seemed like he just wanted to sit on the floor shirtless and play with a broom in peace.
… As one does! Bronze should just be prepared for his dad to swoop in should that broom get anywhere near his eye.
