Nicole Richie Reveals One Thing That Embarrasses Her Teens: ‘I Get a Lot of Eye Rolls’

Impressing your kids is not easy to do — and if you have any tips, Nicole Richie might need them. The Simple Life alum just revealed how uncool her teens Sparrow, 14, and Harlow, 16, think her famous reality show is, and it makes us feel so much better about our own kids’ attitudes.

“The Simple Life is apparently having a big moment on TikTok, so they do tell me that they watch clips on TikTok,” Richie told Varietyabout her kids watching her old show. “Their friends watch it. I get a lot of eye rolls in my house all the time. It’s right on brand with how they see me, in general.”

Although we grew up watching The Simple Life, we can understand why Richie’s teens aren’t exactly fans. I mean, would you want to watch your mom on a reality show? I definitely wouldn’t!

There was one moment her kids weren’t embarrassed about: when they made their red-carpet debut at Richie’s new movie Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead. “Honestly, they were just going to come with me. It was not really something that we had necessarily talked about,” she explained. “We were there as a family. They’re old enough now. They understand what that is.”

Variety also asked if her teens, who she shares with husband Joel Madden, would want to enter the entertainment industry. “I’m not sure. I highly doubt that my son does,” she said. “My daughter might but she’s not banging down my door asking about it. She’s really living that 16-year-old life.”

Richie leans on her kids to be cooler, too. In an interview with W Magazinein November, she shared that Harlow is the makeup “expert” in the family. “I am very lucky. I cannot tell you the amount of times I’ve called to my daughter in the other room: Do you have concealer?! What do I do with my eyebrows?! And she’s like, Okay, I’ve got you. She basically has a Sephora in her room, so it’s nice for me.”

Maybe one day Richie’s kids will appreciate her coolness. Until then, she can lean on her daughter’s expertise to stay on trend!
