Gabrielle Union Divulged the Sweet Thing She’s Doing for Her Daughter Kaavia & It Involves Her Past 7 Met Gala Outfits

With the Met Gala approaching, we’re walking down memory lane leading up to it. We want to see all the styles we loved in previous years: the wins, the fails, the looks that made us turn our heads and made our jaws drop. We love it all, and the other thing we love more than fashion is sustainable fashion. We love it when stars rewear their iconic looks, giving them new life, and we also adore it when celebs let their kids wear their iconic looks.

And now, Gabrielle Union just revealed that she’s setting aside some specific looks of hers for her daughter Kaavia, and we’re losing it over this sweet revelation.

In a recent interview with People, Union revealed she’s setting aside all of her Met Gala looks for Kaavia.

“So I have a storage that’s just full of things that I’m like, oh, I want to be able to tell this story or how I felt wearing this,” she said. “So it started with me putting in this beautiful display case my first Met ball outfit.”

She added, “I was also in the museum and then I realized maybe I don’t have to display it in my home, but I can put it in a temperature-controlled space that preserves the material and the memories. So even if [Kaavia] never wants to wear any of it, she will have this little bit of her mom and the stories that go with it.”

Isn’t that the coolest thing?

So whether or not Kaavia wants to wear them in the future, she can at least see her mother’s ultra-cool Met Gala looks from the times she’s attended.

Union has actually been to the Met Gala seven times now, making her debut in 2014 for the theme of “Charles James: Beyond Fashion.” She’s attended in 2014, 201, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023. It’s unclear if she’s going to the 2024 Met Gala tomorrow, on May 6, but we know if she does, it’ll be in something showstopping.

For those that don’t know, the You Got Anything Stronger? author and Wade welcomed their daughter Kaavia, 5, via a surrogate back in Nov. 2018.

Union is also the stepmom to Wade’s three kids Zaire, 21, Zaya, 16, and Xavier, 10. Along with that, Wade is the legal guardian of his nephew named Dahveon Morris, 21.

In a previous interview with EOnline, the Bring It On star talked about how Kaavia has taught her so much over the years. “You’re not in control. Like, I wanna make sure she has good manners, she’s kind, she’s compassionate, she’s a student of the world, and that she’s got a world perspective, but if she’s gonna be shady, she gonna be shady. If she wants to dress [in] full accessories to tennis, it’s gonna happen… This is who she is,” she said.
