That’s right! Today is Prince Archie‘s fifth birthday! Somehow, the little nugget is already 5! And you may have missed the news because, well, the royal family has quite the track record when it comes to snubbing the Sussexes. Buckingham Palace has yet to release a statement wishing the young prince a happy birthday (and we won’t hold our breath). Plus, his parents Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are quite private when it comes to Archie and his little sister Princess Lilibet. We doubt we’ll see any birthday portraits like we saw for cousins Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis when they celebrated their birthdays in the last couple of weeks.
No, it has already panned out to be a much more private day, but insiders suspect Prince Archie will be getting a special gift from his grandfather, King Charles III. Royal expert Tom Quinn told The Mirror thatKing Charles will likely send a card and a small present to Archie’s true home across the pond.
“There has even been talk that he will send one of his own watercolor paintings to Archie as a present as Meghan loves homemade gifts and dislikes extravagant expensive presents,” Quinn said.
Anything more than that could prove to be too much, and Quinn suspects the monarch and his team are “desperately worried” that any gift will be “misinterpreted” by Harry and Meghan. And while there’s reason to believe Prince Archie will be getting a phone call from his grandpa, it likely won’t be a FaceTime.
“If he makes an ordinary telephone call to Harry it means he can have a quick word with Archie without the need to talk to Meghan, a prospect that fills him with dread,” Quinn said of the sovereign who supposedly dislikes technology enough as it is.
Soon after his son’s birthday, Prince Harry will likely head to the U.K. to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games — the tournament for wounded veterans that he founded. It’s unlikely his wife and children will join him for the momentous occasion since his latest legal loss puts their safety at risk.
With that in mind, some might say a sufficient security team would be an incredibly appreciated birthday gift so Prince Archie could visit his family (his doppelganger included!). But, if that’s not something the monarch has control over … a handmade watercolor is sweet.
