The Met Gala may have had a “Sleeping Beauties” theme, but Gabrielle Union channeled a different princess for her stunning look. The Bring It On alum was as beautiful and graceful as The Little Mermaid with her water-inspired silver-and-green gown. And it turns out, her daughter Kaavia, 5, was just as impressed with her mom’s look as we were!
TheIdea of You executive producer told Entertainment Tonightthat her and husband Dwyane Wade’s daughter approved of her Michael Kors gown. “Mission Accomplished,” Union said. “There’s only one girl we care about what we look like and that’s pleasing Shady Baby. She was like, ‘Mommy, you look like a mermaid!'”
It’s so true! The dress seemed to ripple like water as the scale pattern cascaded down Union’s body, going from silver to green to aquamarine. The form fitting dress pooled out at Union’s knees, ended in a circular train that was just as beautiful as a mermaid’s tail! Wade looked dapper as well in a lilac suit over a white shirt.
Getting Kaavia’s approval was especially sweet because the dress was actually inspired by her. Union told PEOPLE at the event, “This is inspired by [Kaavia]. She’s a water baby — she loves the water.” (Which we’ve seen plenty of evidence of over the years!)
In an interview with PEOPLE earlier this month, Union revealed that she is saving her iconic clothes for her daughter to wear one day. “So I have a storage that’s just full of things that I’m like, oh, I want to be able to tell this story or how I felt wearing this,” Union said. “So it started with me putting in this beautiful display case my first Met ball outfit.”
“I was also in the museum and then I realized maybe I don’t have to display it in my home, but I can put it in a temperature-controlled space that preserves the material and the memories,” she continued. “So even if [Kaavia] never wants to wear any of it, she will have this little bit of her mom and the stories that go with it.”
And the note on this mermaid dress will be able about Kaavia, and that is so beautiful!
