Brooke Shields Reveals the Sentimental Tattoo She Got With Daughter Grier on Her 18th Birthday

When Brooke Shields’ daughter Grier Henchy turned 18 last month, she gave her a unique birthday present: mother-daughter tattoos! At the premiere of her new movie, Mother of the Bride, Shields showed off her new ink and the sentimental story behind it.

“This is the tattoo that I got with my younger daughter, who asked me to do this on her 18th birthday,” Shields told Entertainment Tonight, showing off a line drawing tattoo on her forearm of a little girl wearing high heels next to an adult wearing heels. “She used to wear my high heels all the time,” Shields explained.

Aww! Getting matching tattoos might not be for everybody, but I absolutely love that they did this together. It’s actually a tradition — Shields got matching tattoos with her eldest daughter Rowan on her 18th birthday as well. Rowan joined her mom on the red carpet, and they showed off their matching ladybug tattoos (Shields has it on her wrist and Rowan on her ankle). They women also wore similar red gowns to the event, looking gorgeous.

“When your daughter wants to be branded with you, you just say yes,” Shields said with a laugh.

It just proves again how close their bond is. The Blue Lagoon star, who shares Rowan and Grier with husband Chris Henchy, also opend up about her youngest daughter leaving for college in the fall. “I’m not quite in denial but, definitely, I’m going to be a mess,” Shields told ET. “I really am going to be a mess.”

“But I know that they’re going to come back,” she added. “I mean, my older daughter comes back often and, you know, they’ll be my babies forever. If you’ve done it right, though, you want them to feel that freedom to start their lives, you know?”

She shared similar sentiments on a recent appearance on The Jess Cagle Show. “The minute my husband is on any type of work trip or gone or something, you know, they still sleep in the bed with me,” Shields said. “We still watch rom-coms. They’re my babies and they will never not be.”

The Pretty Baby alum added, “People will say to me, ‘Oh, you’re gonna be so relieved,’ and I just don’t see it happening. I don’t see it happening. I was like, ‘Well, they’re still gonna come back.’”
