Shawn Johnson’s newest video of her 2-year-old son Jett has us flipping out. The toddler, who turns 3 in July, shows off his impressive new skill that has fans predicting he’ll be ready for the 2036 Summer Olympics!
“Oh boy 😅😅,” the Olympic gold medalist captioned a new video on Instagram, tagging her husband Andrew East. In the clip, the parents are swimming with their youngest baby, 5-month-old Barrett “Bear.” (They are also parents to 4-year-old daughter Drew.) The camera turns to show Jett, who is standing on a diving board in a community pool while a lifeguard looks on. The little boy is wearing swim trunks and nothing else — no floaties, no goggles, nothing to help him swim! That’s impressive on its own, but what he does next blew us out of the water.
At the edge of the diving board, Jett points to show where he is going to jump, bends his knees, and executes a perfect pencil jump into the pool. Next, he climbs out and is ready to go again. This time, he leans forward and does a front flip off the edge of the diving board, landing in the pool with a splash after rotating almost all the way around. He then resurfaces, where his mom is quick to grab him.
“Our 2 year old learning how to front flip off the diving board,” Johnson wrote over the video. Amazed is an understatement. I’m in shock at how skilled this toddler is. I don’t even think my 5-year-old would be brave enough to try this!
“This kid is 7 at minimum,” one person quipped. “He has NOOO FEAR 😂” another commented.
“Not him planning out where he is going to land! This is iconic 😂” someone else wrote. “Fearless. Looks like an adrenaline junkie in the making. Watch out!” someone else said.
Many people think he’s ready to train for the Olympics. One person commented, “Olympic swimmer. Calling it now. 👌” Someone else wrote, “Future diver!! Some of the best divers are/were gymnasts. Just sayin’🤷♀️”
Olympic gold medalist diver David Boudia was impressed too. “Bring em my way in 16 years SJ,” he commented on the video.
The retired gymnast shared in April that her daredevil son crashed into his bed, leading to an emergency room visit and 10 stitches.
“Well … Not the night we had envisioned ha but we are doing good,” she wrote on her Instagram story. The Moments Makers Foundation co-creator explained that she “heard Jett crying, like unusually” from his bedroom. “And literally when I opened the door I could just see the blood on his face. I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh. Oh, my gosh.’ I was like, ‘Andrew! Andrew!’ I picked Jett up and I was like, ‘You’re OK buddy, you’re OK, you’re OK.’ But I knew immediately, I was like, ‘We’re going to the ER.’”
Back in March, East revealed that Jett just started flipping on his own. He called the little boy “impressive” in the cute video of him demonstrating the move in the swimming pool, in a bounce house, and on a trampoline.
“Our 2 year old woke up today and decided to flip,” the former professional footballer wrote over the video. “He had never done this before and I’m not sure where he learned it or got the idea.” Johnson defended herself from the implied dig in the comments, writing, “I had an absolute heart attack. I had NOTHING to do with this. I’m now begging him to stop! hahahaha”
But, as anyone with a toddler knows, it’s impossible to get your toddlers to stop doing something they’ve set their minds on. He’s just as determined as his mama!
These celebrity kids want to follow in their parents’ footsteps.
