Bruce Willis nailed the art of being a girl dad with his five daughters (Rumer, 35, Scout, 32, and Tallulah, 30, with ex Demi Moore, and Mabel, 12, and Evelyn, 10, with wife Emma Heming Willis) and now he is practicing as a girl grandad to Rumer’s 1-year-old baby Louetta “Lou” Isley. The Rumer Has It founder opened up about how seeing her dad in grandparent mode “unlocks” childhood memories for her, and it’s such a heartwarming story.
Rumer appeared on the TODAYWednesday to promoter her upcoming residency at Café Carlisle residency in June. Host Hoda Kotb commented on the “quiet confidence” Willis developed since becoming a mom. “There’s something about becoming a mom that just. I don’t know, I have this kind of, ‘I can do anything,’” Rumer said.
The model, who shares Lou with partner Derek Richard Thomas, also opened up about seeing Bruce and Moore interact with her daughter. “Honestly, seeing them with her, it almost unlocks all of these childhood memories because being a grandparent, I think, is the best,” Rumer said, and we can relate. There is something so beautiful about seeing your parents transition into grandparents.
“They have all of the love and joy without any of the responsibilities. They get to just spoil her,” she added. It sounds perfect!
The Sorority Row actress gave an update on her dad, who has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. “He’s so good. I actually got to see him right before I came out [to New York],” she said. “And Lou is just starting to walk a little bit, and she was walking over to him, and it was so sweet. It’s so nice because my dad, he’s a girl dad, through and through. And it almost unlocks that little kid, girl dad thing. He’s so sweet with her.”
“I saw him with my sisters, my little sisters,” Rumer added. Kotb chimed in, “So you’re seeing that all come back.”
And Bruce isn’t the only one who enjoys spending time with Lou. In an interview with PEOPLE earlier this month, Rumer shared that her daughter “loves” going to see her grandpa, and the feeling is mutual. “It’s so sweet. Louetta honestly is like the most famous person in our family,” she quipped. “Within my family, people will call and ask to have playdates just with her. They’re like, ‘We don’t really want to see you, we’re just coming over to see Louetta.’ I’m like, ‘OK.’”
Rumer has appreciated the public’s response to the Die Hard star’s diagnosis. “He’s so beloved,” she said about her dad in Wednesday’s interview on TODAY. “And what’s lovely is people will stop me on the street or at the airport wherever it is and are so effusive about how much they love him, how much of an impact he’s had on them, or just that they’re sending love to our family. It really makes me a proud daughter, honestly, to just see how much love he’s getting.”
On his birthday in March, Rumer shared her own love for her dad. “I am your first baby and man sometimes I wish I could be tiny enough to just cozy up on your chest again and laugh and cuddle you,” she wrote in part on Instagram. “I love you so deep in my bones I don’t know how my muscles hold them. You are the greatest papa I could ever hope for. Thank you for your generosity, your silliness and heart.”
“Lou loves you so big,” Rumer added.
This family is so heartwarming!
