Bindi Irwin Revealed Daughter Grace’s Favorite Animal & It Was Destiny

The late Steve Irwin was known for his love of animals, and his granddaughter Grace Warrior shares that caring nature (as do her parents, Bindi Irwin and Chandler Powell, and the rest of the Irwin family). And in an incredible full-circle moment, something the Crocodile Hunter did decades ago is influencing his 3-year-old granddaughter now. Bindi shared a sweet new video revealing Grace’s favorite animal and highlighting the special connection it has with her dad. It’s giving us goosebumps!

“The legacy continues …” the Australia Zoo CEO captioned the video on Instagram. It begins with a throwback picture of Steve holding a turtle. “My dad discovered a new species of turtle 40 years ago,” she explains in the video. “Never knowing they would be his granddaughter’s favorite animal.” Cut to a picture of her toddler looking adorable in a pink shirt, pink pants, and light blue bucket hat, and holding a teeny tiny turtle in her hands. Um, who gave her permission to be this cute?!

“Today, we protect this incredibly vulnerable species with an endangered species breeding program,” Bindi continues, showing a picture of Grace on her stomach, admiring the turtles at Australia Zoo. The turtle species Steve discovered is called “Elseya Irwini or Irwin’s Turtle,” which Bindi said is “in good hands.”

“You’d be so proud of your granddaughter, Dad. We miss you,” she finished, showing a picture of Grace smiling as she holds an Irwin’s Turtle in her hands. Are you crying yet? Because we could fill several buckets with our tears at this point.

“This is incredibly special. I love you and Grace so much💚” Powell commented on the video. “That’s him letting you know he’s still around by coming through traits within your daughter🥹” someone else wrote.

“Immediately crying,” someone else wrote. How can you expect us to learn this information about Grace and Steve without crying? It’s impossible.

In addition to turtles, Grace also loves tortoises (and yes, there is a major difference). “Grace is here to tell you about her friend. 🐢” Bindi captioned a video last month, featuring Grace acting like a documentarian. The toddler crouches down to get a closer look at the tortoise, pointing to a red hibiscus flower. “This flower on the ground,” she says. “She’s eating it. The tortoise right here.”

Later, Grace mimics the turtle’s crunching movement as she eats. “This is a tortoise eating a flower,” she explains, perfectly summarizing the event. She spewed some tortoise facts later, telling the camera: “Tortoises go in land. Turtles go in water,” she said. “Tortoises favorite snack is leaves.”

The Crikey! It’s the Irwins star told Entertainment Tonightin February that Grace reminds her of her dad. “She reminds me of dad with her personality type,” Bindi gushed. “She is just awing with everything. Her whole soul being is full of passion and enthusiasm and it’s very cute because she’s fiery and fabulous and I love that.”
