Halle Berry & Ex Olivier Martinez Ordered To Take ‘Co-Parenting Therapy’ Nearly a Decade After Filing for Divorce

Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez filed for divorce nearly 10 years ago, in October 2015, and the former couple is still in the throes of their legal battle. According to documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight, the two “shall participate in co-parenting therapy/coaching” when it comes to their 9-year-old son, Maceo.

The documents even specified who the actors should be seeing: Dr. Jaye-Jo Portanova, an adult and child psychiatrist who specializes in divorce and coaching parents.

Per the documents, Berry and Martinez will each have an individual session with Dr. Portanova before participating in “no less than six” joint sessions to “resolve disputes and conflicts between in an effort to successfully co-parent … in a manner that promotes Maceo’s best interests.” If approved by Dr. Portanova, Berry’s boyfriend, Van Hunt, can join.

The news comes less than a year after the former couple seemingly settled on a custody agreement. The two share custody of their son, but Berry was ordered to pay Martinez $8 thousand per month in child support plus 4.3 percent of any income she receives above $2 million. The Catwoman star will also pay for her son’s school tuition, uniforms, and supplies, as well as any expenses for extracurricular activities.

After their sixth co-parenting therapy session with Dr. Portanova, she will make a recommendation as to whether they should continue. Per ET, the sessions will be confidential and neither actor will be able to call her as a witness in future proceedings.

Last summer, she shared super rare photos of her and Nahla rocking some Barbiecore looks. Fans couldn’t get over how Nahla — Berry’s former mini-me — towered over her mom.

While Berry works to be the best mom she can be to Maceo and Nahla — co-parenting coaching and all — the two have another very special mother figure in their life. Berry’s fifth-grade teacher is their godmother! On an episode of Gwyneth Paltrow’s podcast, Berry opened up about the impact Yvonne Sims had on her life. The Oscar winner said the teacher “followed” her throughout her schooling, securing jobs as a counselor at both her middle and high school. And they stayed incredibly close long after graduation.

“Now that we’re still in each other’s lives, I said to her one day, ‘Isn’t it interesting that just happened? That that was fate, like serendipity?’” Berry said. “She was like, ‘You think that just happened by mistake? I was following you all these years because I knew you needed me.’”

“She said, ‘I saw your potential, but I knew you needed to be held,’ because of my family, my growing, my lack of guidance in my home,” Berry said. “And we had a connection.”
