Eva Mendes is one of the many Hollywood moms who is notoriously private about her kids. (No shade!) Heck, she’s even private about her marriage to actor Ryan Gosling. So we were shocked to see a video on her Instagram Story that was a relatable nod to motherhood. It was giving “Tell me you’re a mom without telling me you’re a mom.”
The Ghost Rider actress posted a selfie video where she opens up her purse to show the two partially eaten apples that have taken up residence. She wags her finger at the apples and then pans up to her face where she’s just shaking her head in disapproval.
Even without the words “Mami life” written over the video, we would have known Mendes’ daughters Esmerelda, 9 and Amada, 8 were the culprits. Because do the kids ever finish their damn apples? Of course not. And so mom is left with the carnage. (Because you know that if she threw them away, that’s when her girls would instantly be hungry.)
Hence Mendes shaking her head.
When Mendes does talk about motherhood, it’s usually to come after trolls. Last month, she rightfully slammed haters who came after her for being pregnant in her 40s.
“People were like, ‘Oh my God, you’re going to be so tired. That’s why people have kids in their 20s,'” she shared. “I was like, that’s the most sorry, asinine thing I’ve ever heard … In my 20s, I shouldn’t have even been around a child. I was just foul-mouthed and smoking. I could not have raised kids in any other era of my life but now, for sure.”
The Hitch star said it was “the easiest decision she ever made” to take a break from acting when her daughters were born.
“I was older and I knew that my kids are going to be little once, and whatever I do or don’t do right now is going to affect them the rest of their life.” Mendes added, “Your career comes and goes but kids, yeah, that was easy for me. They’re just formative years. I wanted to be there for all of it.”
But she doesn’t stand by the term “stay at home mom.” Earlier this year, she pointed out a common misconception about the role to Today.com. “There’s not much staying at home, by the way,” she said with a laugh. “You do a lot of driving, every day. I’m going here to pickups, this, that.” Or you take them out (to what looked like a park) and have to sit with their partially eaten apples rotting away in your gorgeous white purse.
