Did y’all know the famous director M. Night Shyamalan has a daughter? Not only does he have three dads (we love a supportive girl dad), but his middle child Ishana is a director, just like her papa! During her directorial debut, her father was by her side throughout it all, and even through this “intense” occurrence.
In an interview with People, Ishana revealed how her father has been “very supportive” of her career throughout it all. “He said at the very beginning, he was like, ‘If you have any question that this is what you wanna do, don’t do it. It’s hard, and you need to be sure that you can’t survive without it,'” she said.
She added how much they adore the father-daughter directing experience. “We’re both enjoying having a partner in this experience, this very intense thing,” she said. “They feel very scary, so to have someone there that’s right on the same line, I really appreciate.”
She added that he “led by example and continuously pushed me to become the best version of myself and the best possible artist.”
Seriously, we adore a supportive girl dad, and these two handled it all so gracefully, even through the intense processes.
This year, Ishana released her debut, The Watchers, starring Dakota Fanning, which follows a young artist trapped in a home with three strangers, all of whom are stalked by mysterious creatures. Later this year, M. will release Trap, starring Josh Hartnett, which follows a father and his teen daughter attending a pop concert that’s trapped from the outside as the police hunt for a serial killer.
Is it really any surprise that Shyamalan has talented children? For those who don’t know, Shyamalan married Bhavna Vaswani, whom he first met while at NYU. They later welcomed three daughters named Saleka, born in either 1996 or 1997, Ishana, born in 2000, and Shivani, born in 2003.
Saleka is a talented musician, Ishana is making a name for herself as a director, and Shivani keeps a low profile, but if you see her socials, it’s easy to see she’s living her best life.
These celebrity dads have the sweetest bonds with their daughters.
