Will Ferrell Pulled the Most Embarrassing Prank at His Son Magnus’ Prom

Will Ferrell is a master at embodying different roles for his films. Buddy the Elf, Ron Burgundy, Ricky Bobby — it’s impossible to choose just one iconic character! And while we love to laugh at his comedic genius, his kids don’t always appreciate his antics. The Barbie star’s eldest son Magnus, 20, recently shared a moment when his dad completely embarrassed him, and the funny video has gone viral on TikTok.

“Rating things my dad has done,” Magnus wrote over a picture on TikTok, which has 27.9 million views. The first picture was a selfie of him in what looks to be a home office, with a drum set, guitars, and a computer on a desk. Then it slides to the next picture, which is a throwback of Magnus when he was still in high school.

“Dressed as a medieval lord to embarrass me at prom 10000/10,” he wrote. In the photo, Magnus looks mortified in his gray suit with a black-and-white polka dot shirt underneath as he stands next to his dad. Ferrell has a burgundy (fitting!) medieval outfit complete with a white collar and an old-fashioned black hat. I feel for Magnus, but at the same time, this is hilarious!

Fans thought so too. “I would personally be okay with that bc he’s will Ferrell,” one person commented, prompting Magnus to respond, “HAHA.”

Another said, “Will Ferrell having a son named magnus is so fitting.” Magnus wrote back, “It’s pretty diabolical.”

“I’m trying to picture being yelled at by Will Ferrell,” another said. Magnus replied, “Very scary.”

Someone else commented, “I’ve always told people ‘if I could have anyone be my dad, it would 100% be Will Ferrell.” Magnus said, “we can swap roles for a day if u want.”

This isn’t the first time the “Life or Death” singer has opened up about his dad’s embarrassing habits. In an interview on the Lightweights Podcast in Oct. 2023, Magnus shared a story about his dad dressing up for Easter during quarantine.

“On Easter, my mom [Viveca Paulin] woke me up and she was like, ‘Hey, come outside I gotta show you something,’” he recalls, adding that he followed her and sees “this guy in a weird Easter bunny costume, and he’s just like, kinda like trotting around like kinda bizarre and he’s making this weird face.”

Magnus said his dad was seeing a song he made up and screaming “I’m the Easter bunny!” as he ran around the backyard, periodically stopping to tickle Magnus and his brothers, Mattias, now 17, and Axel, now 14, then running away. Yeah, I can totally see how that would be mortifying as a teenager!

“He’s someone who has no shame,” he says, joking, “It feels like social anxiety is afraid of him.”

There are some perks to being Ferrell’s son, though. Earlier this month, Magnus and Axel joined their parents and Ferrell’s mom Betty Kay Overman at the premiere of his new movie, Despicable Me 4. Despite being embarrassed by his dad, it’s obvious Magnus is proud of him too!

Celebrities — they’re just like us! Especially when it comes toembarrassing their kids.
