Olympian Ryan Murphy Finds Out the Sex of His Baby After Winning Bronze & The Moment Was Too Cute to Miss

Ryan Murphy may be a decorated Olympic medalist, but he has an even more exciting award on the way: A baby! Murphy and his pregnant wife Bridget are expecting their first child together, and after he won Bronze in the 100-meter backstroke yesterday, she had an exciting message for him.

From the stands, she waved a sign that said, “RYAN It’s a GIRL!”

She’s ecstatically jumping up and down and Murphy pumped his fists in the air with a matching grin on his face and a medal around his neck.

They then met in the crowd for an emotional embrace and kissed.

A baby girl and a bronze medal! How special is that?!

“That’s a great way to find out,” Murphy said, per NBC News. “That really lit me up and brought this night to a whole other level. It’s really exciting to learn that I’m going to be a girl dad.”

“My life is going to change, and I’m really excited for that,” he said. “It definitely does put things into perspective. I think up to this point, swimming has been the most important thing in my life … and that’s going to change coming up.”

“I’m really looking forward to what’s coming,” he added. “A baby girl.”

The news comes after being certain a baby boy was on the way. “We honestly both thought it was going to be a boy, and everyone we were talking to thought it was going to be a boy,” the swimmer added, per USA Today. “So that’s really, really exciting.”

Today, Murphy retweeted a video that NBC Sports posted on X of the exciting sex reveal and said, “Safe to say that yesterday was a good day!”

Fans were quick to congratulate the elite athlete and agreed that the whole thing was “the best.” “Wait until that little chickie is born – you’ll never be the same – it’s like a light switch.” “Congratulations! … Daughters always see Daddy as their hero.”

These celebrity fathers are all proud to be “girl dads.
