Denise Richards is really impressed with her eldest daughters’ involvement in their upcoming family reality show, Denise Richards and the Wild Things.
On Monday, Richards joined Tori Spelling for an episode of her misSPELLING podcast, during which she shared details about the new E! show — particularly 20-year-old Sami and 19-year-old Lola’s investment in the series.
“It was a big decision,” Richards said of her family’s choice to move forward with the show. “So this was a long time, with all of us talking about it because I wanted to make sure that the girls were really wanting to do it.” The former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star continued, “We’ve opened up our lives and we’re doing it right now and trying to navigate all of that. So, they were excited about it. We had several meetings and talking, and, so we’re doing that now.”
Richards added that she was impressed with how her daughters have asserted and advocated for themselves during the process. She told Spelling that when she was 20, she would have simply done what the production crew and showrunners told her to do, whereas Sami and Lola weren’t afraid to ask questions along the way.
“I’m actually very proud of them because you and I are also very much people pleasers. … I was very proud of the girls that they were asking so many questions that they really wanted to be involved,” the Scary Movie 3 actress said. “Back then, I wouldn’t have asked what they asked and wanted to know certain things, and I’m really proud of them for that.”
Richards added, “I’m excited that we’re doing it and I think it’s fun, and it’s a great opportunity for us as a family to do something together, too.”
The actress announced her return to reality TV in June, sharing the show would be titled Denise Richards and the Wild Things — a reference to her 1998 movie Wild Things. The series, which Richards is executive producing, will follow her life with her daughters and husband Aaron Phypers.
“My family and I are thrilled to return home to E!” Richards shared in the announcement. “Sami and Lola were just 3 and 4 years old when we first shared our story and now we’ve come full circle,” she said of her previous show with the network, Denise Richards: It’s Complicated, which followed the family 16 years ago amid Richards’ divorce from her eldest daughters’ dad, Charlie Sheen.
In addition to Sami and Lola, Richards also adopted a daughter named Eloise after her divorce from Sheen was finalized. It’s unclear if Eloise will be involved in the family’s upcoming show — the 12-year-old was diagnosed with a deletion in chromosome 8, which has caused developmental delays throughout her childhood. Richards usually shields her youngest daughter from the public eye, but she does make the occasional appearance with Eloise, such as last November’s Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade supporting Marine Toys for Tots.
