Heidi Klum just dished about one time her husband Tom Kaulitz went behind her back with her kids — and she still fondly remembers the moment today. Normally, your husband and four kids being “in cahoots” together wouldn’t be good, but Kaulitz did it for a romantic reason. Back in 2018, he asked the kids to help him propose to their mom!
“The sweetest thing that my partner has done for me is that he asked my kids first if he could ask for my hand,” the America’s Got Talent judge told PEOPLE. “So he kind of was in cahoots with my kids.”
He asked her kids’ permission? OK, that is totally sweet! She even revealed how it all went down. “They figured out how they were going to do it and then they all surprised me on Christmas morning six years ago. I thought that was so nice that he involved my kids,” she said. Yep, it’s no surprise at all she said yes!
Klum is mom to Leni, 20, Henry, 18, Johan, 17, and Lou, 14, who she shares with ex-husband Seal. Becoming an insta-dad to four kids wasn’t easy for Kaulitz, though. The Project Runway host told Us Weeklyin 2022, “He’s amazing. I’m sure it’s not easy to step into an immediate family, having all of a sudden four kids and teenagers.” She added, “They were easier when they were younger, for sure. Every age comes with its challenges.”
Still, a source told PEOPLE back in 2019 that the German rocker “made a huge effort to get to know [Klum’s kids]” as she reportedly “made it clear that her first priority is being a mom.”
“He considers himself an extra dad,” the insider went on, revealing that he is also “respectful of Seal.” The source added, “Tom has endless energy and is very playful. He plays sports with Heidi’s boys and is involved in activities that the girls enjoy. Heidi loves his energy and take on life and feels very grateful that she met Tom.”
