Meghan Markle’s Hasty Exit From Recent Event Proves Motherhood Is Her Priority

Meghan Markle has proven once again that she is one of the most down-to-earth A-listers. Sure, she might be a former senior royal who still holds a duchess title, but she’s always made it clear that the title of “Mom” is her priority.

Markle recently attended the grand opening of Godmothers, a bookstore near her family of four’s home in Montecito, California, but she reportedly wasn’t there for long. The Duchess of Sussex made some remarks and listened on as other major guests (like Oprah Winfrey!) celebrated the opening. But once the event was over, she “made a dash for the door,” according to Town & Country.

Not out of rudeness, but for a totally relatable parenting reason.

“I’ve got to make dinner for the kids,” she said apologetically.

Because apparently even duchesses make dinner. (Which is kind of bonkers when you think about it. The Sussexes don’t have a chef?) Markle wasn’t just leaving to catch the tail ends of her kids’ dinner. She was presumably leaving to preheat the oven.

Markle shares Prince Archie, 5 and Princess Lilibet, 3 with husband Prince Harry, and don’t worry — he was reportedly leaving for dinnertime too. He wasn’t selling copies of his memoir at the new bookshop while his wife was tending to the stove. (Although he did cheekily recommend it to attendees.)

In a recent email interview with People, Prince Harry revealed that his kids are just as much a priority to him as they are for his wife. He told the outlet he planned to celebrate his upcoming 40th birthday with them and Markle.

“The best gift I’ve ever been given is, without a doubt, my kids,” he said in an email. “I enjoy watching them grow every single day, and I love being their dad.”

Even if sometimes you and your wife have to leave the party to make sure they’re fed, most parents would agree that kids really are “the best gift.”
