Practicing mindfulness is a personal thing. You could do it in the shower, letting your body and mind relax, or while going for a run. Maybe mindfulness is taking a minute to breathe when you’re in the school pickup line. It doesn’t have to be a big, drawn-out thing — it’s all about grounding yourself in the present moment and appreciating what’s right in front of you. Something that’s even more important when we’re with our kids! Bindi Irwin recently shared how she keeps things in perspective with a little help from her daughter Grace, 3, and their heart-melting new picture is a good reminder for us all!
The Australia Zoo CEO posted a new picture on Instagram on the beach. It’s a cool spring day there, so Irwin is dressed warmly in a long-sleeved navy dress with her hair pulled back in a baseball cap. Grace looks cozy in a white-and-pink sweater with pink jeans as she leans forward to give her mom a full-body hug. Her arms and legs are wrapped around her mom as she leans forward to rest her head on Irwin’s shoulder. The happy mama is just smiling and enjoying the moment, with the sand under her feet and the ocean behind her.
“Holding on to these moments forever. 🩵” Bindi captioned the photo.
Going to the beach with toddlers can be messy and chaotic and stressful, but Bindi made sure to take the time to really enjoy herself in the moment. Hugging her daughter seemed to act like an anchor, holding her in time to soak up some snugs with Grace. Even if it only lasted a few seconds, it’s enough.
Bindi’s mom Terri Irwin (and Grace’s “Bunny”!) commented on the adorable snap, “Unconditional love is the meaning of life.” (And she would know — she had it with Bindi’s dad, the late Steve Irwin!)
“Time goes way too quickly 🥹💗,” someone else said. “They hold your hand for a short time but hold your heart forever 🫶,” another wrote.
“A lot of us remember you at that age. Your Dad is proud!” someone else commented, making us feel more emotional than we already are.
Bindi, who shares Grace with husband Chandler Powell, recently opened up about enjoying the present moment during a YouTube Q&A for Australia Zoo. She revealed that one question she gets asked “a lot” is whether she wants more kids.
“I do just want to send it out there that, remember to be careful when you ask this question because you never know what’s happening in someone’s life,” she said, adding that someone might be going through a personal journey “filled with turmoil and challenges that you can’t even fathom.”
The Crikey! It’s the Irwins star, who has been open about her struggles with endometriosis, added that she and Powell are just thankful for Grace. “We feel very lucky to have Grace. She is our beautiful girl, but she will probably be our one child,” Bindi said, adding that you “never know” what the future holds. “Maybe we will be blessed with another little one down the road. That would be incredible,” she said. But for now, “We are just reveling, reveling in Grace,” she added.
This is good advice whether you are planning on more kids or not. Staying in the present moment and reveling in the kids who you have is so vital. And if your family changes in the future, you and your kids will already have that firm foundation to draw from.
Grace is growing up fast and Bindi is enjoying every second. What more could you ask for as a mom?
