Food-borne illnesses are particularly nasty when you’re pregnant. Although many pregnant women take precautions to avoid high-risk foods, food temperature is also an important factor to consider. “One way to prevent food poisoning is to make sure that your food is cooked to a high enough temperature to kill any bacteria,” says Dr Rallie McAllister, MPH, family physician and coauthor of The Mommy MDs Guide to Pregnancy and Birth. “Before serving your food, check it with an instant-read thermometer.”
