3 Fabulous homemade Valentine crafts

Looking for some unique homemade Valentine ideas? These three easy to make Valentine crafts are perfect a perfect project for you and your kids.

Crafting with kids can be so much fun because it allows them to really stretch their creative muscles. These three easy Valentine crafts are perfect for making with kids of all ages. And the lollypop topper, beaded heart and Valentine shirt all make fabulous homemade Valentines to give, too.

So, which one will you make?

Lollypop toppers

What kid doesn’t love googly eyes? These cute little toppers for Dum-Dums turn a normal lollypop into a really fun handout. This will make 30 lollypop toppers.

You need:

• 5 felt rectangles (9×12-inches) — available at Michael’s
• Scissors
• 30 Dum-Dum lollypops
• Skinny satin-like ribbon
• White school glue
• 60 googly eyes (smallish ones)

Directions:

1. Cut each of the felt rectangles into six even pieces. The best way to do this is to fold the felt in half (along the long side) and then cut down the center. Then fold each of the long felt rectangles into three, and cut along the folds.
2. Place a lollypop (candy portion) in the center of one of the felt squares. Fold the felt around the lollypop and secure with a ribbon (tie it around the stick in a bow).
3. Use the white school glue to place two dots on the felt. Then, stick the googly eyes onto the dots of glue.
4. Allow to dry completely before handling.
5. Attach a Valentine note to the lollypops before handing out.

Beaded heart valentine

Handling beads is great for fine motor skills. And these adorable one-of-a-kind Valentines can be hung from drawer pulls, cork boards or anything. This will make 25 beaded heart Valentines.

You need:

• 15 pipe cleaners (red or pink — metallic works great)
• Beads (purchasing a tub of mixed beads works best)
• Hole punch
• 15 index cards
• Markers
• Ribbon

Directions:

1. String beads onto the pipe cleaners, covering about half of the pipe cleaner with them.
2. Fold the pipe cleaner in half, creating a deep-V. Then wrap the ends around, creating a heart shape. Secure the ends together.
3. Use the hole punch to punch a hole in each of the index cards. Use the markers to decorate the cards and write a Valentine’s Day message.
4. Attach the index cards to the hearts with the ribbon.

Valentine shirt

How about a cute, easy-to-make shirt? This is best for slightly older kids (think age six and up) to make. This will make one Valentine shirt.

You will need:

• 1 extra large trash bag
• 1 white T-shirt
• Thick paper
• Scissors
• Spray-on fabric paint (available at Michael’s and other craft stores)

Directions:

1. Lay the plastic bag on the floor in a cool, dry area. Lay the T-shirt on top.
2. Cut out heart shape(s) in the paper and place the stencil on top of the T-shirt. You may wish to secure it to the shirt with painter’s tape.
3. Spray the stencil with fabric paint(s), covering the heart area.
4. Allow the shirt to dry completely before removing the stencil or moving.
