Planning a less hectic schedule

Aside from your other duties as Mom, you have to keep a clean house, do the laundry, do the grocery shopping and make sure everyone sits down to a healthy dinner. You’d also like to have a life of your own and enjoy some me time every now and then. Believe it or not, it’s possible to take care of everyone else and still have time to take care of yourself. Here’s how.

Make a meal plan.

Plan out your meals for an entire week before you go grocery shopping. Buy everything you need for those meals, and you won’t have to go back to the grocery store until next week. Plan the meals that require fresh produce for the beginning of the week so the fruits and veggies will still be in good shape. Getting everything you need in one trip will eliminate extra trips and save you time (and money).

How to make meal planning easy >>

Cook two meals at once.

When making a freezer-friendly dinner, double the recipe. Serve half to your family that night, and freeze the other half for a busy day. There’s nothing like knowing dinner is already made and just needs to be popped in the oven.

Call out for dinner.

There’s nothing wrong with a pizza or takeout from time to time. If you’re not comfortable with the takeout choices, look into meal delivery services in your area. These typically deliver home-cooked and hot or oven-ready meals you can feel good about serving your family.

Get help.

If your kids are old enough, enlist their help in your daily chores. Give them a choice: Ask if they’d rather sweep the floor or clean the bathroom. No matter what they choose, they’re helping you out, but they still feel like they have a choice. Get your husband in on the drill, as well. There’s no reason he should be excused from chores! If everyone pitches in a little every day, you’ll have your house in tip-top shape in no time at all.

Forget perfection.

Stop trying to be Superwoman; she’s a myth. It’s all right to leave a pile of laundry unfolded or crumbs on the floor for a day. Don’t feel bad about serving leftovers from time to time, or asking your husband to do something for which you don’t have time. Sometimes, you just need to leave things undone to fit in the fun that makes life worth living.

Make plans.

Set a standing date with your girlfriends each month. If it’s already in writing, you’ll be much less likely to break plans when your schedule fills up.
