Simple, tasty snacks for game night

Stay in and have fun with the whole family by making family game night a tradition. No game night is complete without food, of course, so here are some ideas for simple, tasty snacks next time you host a game night.

Hummus

A delicious and nutritious dip, hummus is delicious with whole-grain crackers, wedges of pita bread or raw veggies for dipping.

Fruit kabobs

Skewer chunks of raw apple, banana, melon, berries and pineapple, along with whole grapes, onto wooden sticks. Roll the skewers in yogurt or chocolate sauce, or just eat them plain.

Finger sandwiches

You can easily eat finger sandwiches between turns. Use tea bread, or just cut the crust off traditional bread and slice the sandwiches into squares. Cream cheese and cucumber make a simple, yummy filling for finger sandwiches. Also try mixing chunked chicken, crushed pineapple, mayonnaise and chopped walnuts.

Star puffs

This simple recipe from the Food Network only takes 15 minutes to bake. Cut a sheet of puff pastry with a star-shaped cookie cutter. Arrange the stars on a parchment-lined baking sheet; brush with olive oil and sprinkle with grated parmesan cheese and pepper. Bake at 400F until puffed and crisp, about 15 minutes.

Spicy popcorn

Instead of traditional popcorn, turn up the heat with a batch of spicy popcorn instead. Cook microwave popcorn according to directions. While cooking, combine 1/2 stick of butter and 1/4 cup hot sauce in a saucepan over low heat until butter is melted. When the popcorn is done, pour the sauce into the open end of the popcorn bag, close and shake. Serve immediately with a sprinkling of parmesan cheese on top.

Hogs in a sleeping bag

This is another easy recipe made with puff pastry. Whip up this recipe and serve with mustard, BBQ sauce or other dip.

Crunchy snack mix

Instead of chips, serve up a homemade snack mix with just the right combination of crunch and salt for a fun snack that your family will enjoy. What’s great about this snack is that you can make it ahead of time and store it for up to a week.

Save the sticky or greasy goods until after you are done playing (or while you are on a break). No one wants cheese sauce dripping on the Monopoly board.
