Who says you shouldn’t play with your food? Buck the rules this holiday season and make your candy canes super fun! After the holidays, your reindeer candy pocket can double as a fun pencil holder!
Supplies needed for one reindeer:
• Brown, red and black craft felt
• 2 plastic googly eyes
• Hot glue and glue gun
• 2 candy canes
• Sewing machine with brown thread
Cut out felt pieces
Using the brown felt, cut out two rectangles measuring 1-1/2 inches by 4 inches (body) and four rectangles measuring 1-1/2 inches by 2 inches (legs). Then cut out a head shape that measures approximately 2-1/2 inches wide by 4 inches tall. Cut a dime-sized circle from the red felt for the nose. Cut out 1/2 inch squares from the black felt to create hoof shapes. If desired, give the squares a more hoof-like appearance by cutting a small v-shape out of one side of each square.
Create reindeer body
Arrange the four legs on one of the larger brown-felt rectangle as desired. We placed two at the bottom and one on either side. Place the second rectangle on top, sandwiching the ends of the legs in between the two. Pin the legs into place and then carefully stitch around the sides and bottom of the body, leaving the top open for the candy canes.
Finishing touches
Prepare the face by placing the eyes and nose where desired on the head shape, then attach them with the hot glue gun. Once the eyes and nose have dried, glue the face onto the body pouch, with the chin approximately two inches down the body. Insert your candy canes and you’re done!
