The scenario
‘Tis the season!
The Holidays are right around the corner!
Shopping to be done. House to decorate. Cards to mail out. Gifts to wrap. Dinners to make. People to entertain. Money to spend!
Question: Do you go all out for the holidays?
Audrey McClelland
I go way overboard! I always have. I never stick to a budget when it comes to holidays gift for the boys or my family, which does get nuts.
We have two holiday parties at my house: one for the boys’ friends and one for their basketball team. I send out over 300 holiday cards.
The house has been decorated since Thanksgiving! Christmas is my favorite holiday, so seriously — every year — I just go all out. Insanely so!
Audrey left the fashion world of Donna Karan International in NYC to raise her brood of boys in her home state of Rhode Island. She’s learned that you can take the girl out of the Fashion District, but you can’t take the Fashion District out of the girl. Audrey brings her fashion expertise and mom experience to Mom Generations.

I try my best to keep things simple. I keep a budget for each recipient and stick to it. If I don’t, it all gets rather overwhelming.
I think Christmas is more about appreciating what we do have and I want to teach my boys the same. I feel that if I give them everything they ask for now, it’s going to lead to disappointment down the road.
They usually get the number one thing on their list and then a few others. So no, I don’t go all out… I just don’t think it’s necessary
