This year, we saw a number of fantastic family films. If you haven’t seen all these movies yet, catch them on DVD. Here are our favorite kids’ movies of 2011.
Arthur Christmas
The 3D, CGI-animated family comedy Arthur Christmas is witty, creative and fun. When Arthur Claus (Santa’s son) realizes one gift was accidentally undelivered, he is determine to get the present there before Christmas morning. If your kids have ever wondered how Santa delivers all those gifts in just one night, now they can find out.
Rango
Released in March, Rango (voice: Johnny Depp) is about a pet chameleon who finds himself in Dirt — a lawless outpost town in the Wild West. This is a fun, smart movie that is enjoyed by kids and adults alike.
Rio
From the director of the Ice Age trilogy, this movie features a blue macaw named Blu (voice: Jesse Eisenberg) who is sent from Minnesota to Brazil to save his species. He must win the heart of a female macaw, Jewel (voice: Anne Hathaway).
Born To Be Wild 3D
This documentary is short (only 40 minutes) but worth seeing. Narrated by Morgan Freeman, the film features young orphaned orangutans and elephants that are nurtured, cared for and then returned to the wild.
Kung Fu Panda 2: The Kaboom Of Doom
Po (voice: Jack Black) is back and now a kung fu master. Po and The Furious Five join forces with another group to try to defeat the evil emperor peacock, Lord Shen. If you were a fan of the first film, you’ll like this one, too.
The Lion King 3D
This is the 3-D re-release of Disney’s 1994 animated classic. So, it’s not a new movie — but how could we leave it off the list? Everybody loves The Lion King, and you’ll love it again in 3-D. If you have young kids who’ve never seen the original, then this movie is a must-rent.
The Muppets
People young and old have loved The Muppets for decades and they still do. The 2011 film was met with great reviews from critics and viewers alike. If you are a fan of Sesame Street or the previous Muppets movies, this one is a must-see.
Other 2011 movies worth watching include Winnie the Pooh, Puss in Boots and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
