January Jones thinks her placenta is super yummy

January Jones is adjusting to motherhood quite nicely, thanks to something that came out of her body. Find out the controversial supplement she touts.

Mega TMI alert: January Jones recently revealed that she’s keeping her body full of nutrients post-birth, thanks to a healthy dose of placenta. Wait, what? It’s true: The Mad Men actress recently revealed to People that she’s eating the dehydrated placenta that came out when she gave birth to son Xander last year.

“I have a great doula who makes sure I’m eating well, with vitamins and teas, and with placenta capsulation,” Jones told People. “It’s something I was very hesitant about, but we’re the only mammals who don’t ingest our own placentas.”

Placentophagy, the scientific team for consuming a placenta, allegedly decreases post-natal depression and gives vital nutrients to those who consume it.

“It’s not witch-crafty or anything!” Jones insisted.

Well, we aren’t in the business of telling others how to live their lives, but it sounds pretty nasty. Still, the web is filled with stories of mothers who chose to eat the after birth in smoothies and other concoctions.

Celebrities like Matthew McCongaughey like placenta for other reasons. The actor once told CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta that he planned to plant Camila Alves’ placenta near a tree for fertilizer.

“It’s going to be in the orchards and it’s going to bear some wonderful fruit. When I was in Australia, they had a placenta tree that was on the river… and all the placentas of all that tribe, all that clan, whatever aboriginal tribe that was, all the placentas went under that one tree and it was this huge behemoth of just health and strength.

“This tree was just growing taller and stronger above the rest of Mother Nature around it. It was gorgeous.”

American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez is also said to enjoy pricey placenta facials.

“Jennifer’s been a fan of placenta facials for years,” a source told U.K. magazine Now last year. “They cost her over a thousand dollars a week but she swears by them. She loves that it’s natural with no harsh chemicals. Jen always looks fabulous but there’s hours of work that go into that.”

Well, whatever works. We’ll just stick to our multivitamins.
