This is a tough one for me because I have had a personal experience with this. My sister, at the age of 12 years old, had a nose job.

My sister was born with a bump on her nose. She hated it. Every time she walked to a mirror, she would hold her finger up to her nose on the side so you couldn’t see the bump. It was very difficult to see because I knew she was so uncomfortable.

At 12 years old, after many doctor consultations, my parents allowed my sister to have the bump removed and smoothed down. It wasn’t an easy decision for them — it really was an emotional roller coaster.

But I will say that it changed my sister. It was exactly what she needed for her confidence. She became a “new” Janie, and as her sister, it was incredible to see.

If one of my sons asked for a nose job, and I knew how difficult it was for them to live in their own skin, even at the age of 12 or 13 years old, I would do it in a heartbeat. That being said — I’m not about the boobies!

Thirteen is far too young for a nose job.

At this age, the face is still growing and changing. I understand how awkward those early teen years are, but plastic surgery is not the solution.

Unfortunately, stars like Ashley Tisdale, who was the star of High School Musical and admired by tweens across the nation, got a nose job. She was far older than 13, but it sent a message to those impressionable teens — even the most beautiful girl from a super popular Disney movie wasn’t perfect enough. This is so sad.

When a girl’s body is growing and changing, she needs to see and hear people say she is beautiful just the way she is.
