10 Must-photograph new baby moments

Those special moments pass by in the blink of an eye. Capture them in photos before they pass you by.

Your baby has a must-photograph moment every single day – just one glance at the Facebook page of a new parent can prove that. Still, there are some moments we just don’t think you can let pass by. These are our 10 favorite must-photograph baby moments. Catch them if you can!

First minutes with mom

You spend nine months imagining what it will feel like to hold that precious baby. Make sure to get a photo of the minute it actually happens. Photographer Rebecca Williams caught every emotion from the exhausted mama in this photo.

Meeting daddy

No matter how involved they are in the pregnancy, dads just can’t have that same connection moms do up to the birth. The moment he finally gets to touch that precious little one should not be forgotten (photo courtesy of Rebecca Williams photography).

Sibling love

They won’t always be so full of wonder at the newest member of the family, so capture their joy at becoming older siblings. Photographer Maureen Ford did just that with this photo of two older sisters meeting their younger sibling for the very first time.

Baby meets family pet

Our pets are important members of our families too, so their first meetings with baby should also be documented. Zack Wessels, an account manager at PhotoScramble, captured this hilarious image of his daughter Lucy meeting their dog, Gunther, for the first time.

Crib snooze

When you pick out the crib for your baby’s nursery, you probably picture bringing him home and putting him in it. The truth is, your baby will probably spend very little, if any, time in his crib in the first few months of his life. He’ll be in your room, in the living room, anywhere but his own nursery. That’s why the little time he does spend in his own actual bed should be documented, as photographer Meggan Joy has done in this photo of baby Carter.

Time with grandma

They say that every time a baby is born, so is a grandma. Capture their first moments together as photographer Ben Evans has done in this photo.

Quiet moments

You snap tons of photos of you and baby on the move, but there will come a time in the not-too-distant future when you long for those quiet moments spent snuggling in bed with your baby. Snap a few photos of those moments too, as newborn and baby photographer Jane Goodrich has done here.

First steps

It won’t be long until those little feet are learning to take steps. Goodrich captured these wobbly steps with the help of Mom and Dad, of course!

First teeth

We know that toothy grin is unforgettable, but snap of a picture of it anyway, just in case! (photo courtesy of Jane Goodrich).

Snow adventures

Baby’s first time in the snow is usually filled with uncertainty, joy…and fabulous facial expressions! Have your camera ready before you head out the door. Don’t be afraid to get creative with the poses, like Goodrich did here with the snow angel.

Tip:

Keep a small camera in your diaper bag so you never miss a moment, no matter where you are. Cell phones usually have decent cameras these days, but they’re not always great for action shots or in low light.
