Free activities in Cincinnati

Penguin Parade outside the Newport Aquarium

Every morning at 10am, visitors and children can march outside the Newport Aquarium with a handful of waddling penguins. This free and highly entertaining parade is a great learning opportunity for the kids. The gifted aquarium volunteers will pepper the activity with fun penguin facts. You’ll probably want to follow the parade by entering the aquarium to learn more about marine life, but the penguin walk is free.

Krohn Conservatory

The Krohn Conservatory is housed in a beautiful Art Deco era building but it’s the 3,500 plant species inside that makes it truly special. The conservatory changes throughout the year with special exhibits and programs, including the ever-popular springtime “Butterfly Show,” where thousands of butterflies are let loose in a specially-themed garden. The rainforest waterfall and exotic plants are on permanent display in the Palm, Tropical, Desert and Orchid houses.

Jungle Jim’s International Market

Jungle Jim’s International Market is much more than a grocery store; it is an adventure. This supermarket is actually a popular tourist destination. Foodies flock to the four acres dedicated to fine food from all around the world. The store is divided into theme areas like Amish Country, the Ocean, Europe, South America, India and the Middle East. Kids will love trying medallions of alligator and seeing English food displayed under a moving diorama of Robin Hood and friends. Occasionally Elvis may serenade you when you buy pastries.
