April: Main Street Fort Worth Art Festival
The Main Street Fort Worth Art Festival takes place over one weekend in April every year. It is a free festival where you can experience 200+ artists and 85+ performers every day. The Main Street Fort Worth Art Festival is the Southwest’s largest, four-day visual arts and entertainment festival that includes four days of fine art, food, fun and festivities! It was even rated as the Number 1 Arts Festival in Texas, and the 3rd largest Arts Festival in the country, by the Harris List and the Art Fair SourceBook.
If you are an art fan, this is the festival you want to be sure to attend. Kids can enjoy face painting and many exhibits that allow them to make their own art projects including coloring stations and sand art stations. Your children will also love the various performers doing mime, dancing and playing instruments.

April-May: Scarbourough Renaissance Festival
The Scarbourough Renaissance Festival just on the outskirts of Dallas, TX, is your chance to step back into the Medieval times with your family. This festival lasts eight weeks in the spring, and is a time of fun and learning for your whole family. Dress up in the traditional dress of the medieval period to make your experience even more fun and exciting, or come as you are and enjoy all the fancy costumes worn by the men and women that work at the festival.
The Scarborough Renaissance Festival is a Renaissance-themed festival based on the year 1533, during the reign of England’s King Henry VIII, and takes place on 35 acres. Let your children watch and enjoy one of the three full combat jousts that take place each day, or let your kids enjoy the petting zoo, the the pirate ship swing, the climbing tower, ring toss, barrel rides and more! Have you ever had a turkey leg? Over 20 tons of yummy roasted turkey legs are sold and eaten in the eight weeks of this festivals existence every year. If turkey legs are not your thing, there are many other kitchens and pubs that you can take your family to eat at or when you just need to sit and rest your feet.

September: Greek Festival of Dallas
Greek Festival of Dallas takes place the last weekend of September every year and is a highly anticipated event. Located at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, your kids can learn about Greek heritage, crafts, food and dance. The children’s area features sand art and crafts, caricature artists, face painting and more.
The Agora marketplace also features a number of delights for young festival-goers while parents can be in awe looking at hand painted eggs and oil paintings from Greece. There is a large tent where you can sit, relax, and enjoy some Greek food, or even take part in cooking demos to learn how to make some of your favorite Greek food. If dancing is your thing you can watch the Holy Trinity Hellenic Dancers performing dances from various regions of Greece from the mountains of Epirus to the shores of the Dodecanese Islands. Your kids will probably want to get up and join the fun!

September: Addison Oktoberfest
This celebration is the largest and most well known Oktoberfest event in North Texas. It is open for four days every fall, normally towards the last half of September, and has activities for adults and children. Celebrate Oktoberfest rain or shine in the 30,000 square foot covered and air-conditioned Schloss Addison tent with German food, bier (beer) and live entertainment for the adults.
Kids love to hang out in this air conditioned tent on hot days where they also get to dance and play together to live German music and try great food and iced drinks. Outside of the tent there are carnival rides, a petting zoo and bounce houses for the kids to enjoy. Be sure you bring extra clothes for your child as there is a large water garden your kids can run and play in while they get wet and cool off during the hot fall afternoons.

October: State Fair of Texas
The State Fair of Texas takes place over three weeks at the end of September and the beginning of October. This 277 acre playground is the biggest state fair in the United States and is something you definitely want to experience at least once with your children. There is something for everyone here from large pavilions where you can take a look at the newest and wildest cars to hit the sales floors, tents full of vendors selling arts and crafts as well as stuff you can use in your house to make life a little bit easier, and all the fried food you can ask for.
There is a large section that houses dozens of livestock and where you can be a farmer and see pig races. Kids can enjoy pony rides, basketball competitions, puppet shows, and real carnival rides and roller coasters including the biggest Ferris wheel in Texas. If that doesn’t impress them take them by and introduce them to Big Tex, the 52 foot tall talking cowboy and check out his size 70 boots!
