Family-friendly outdoor activities in Boulder, Colorado

With so many things to do with kids, plenty of parks, hands-on museums and nature at its best will keep you and your family engaged in Boulder, Colorado.

Boulder Falls

Just a short drive from the hustle and bustle of the city, Boulder Falls will expose your family to the natural beauty of Mother Nature without the long road trip. Don’t miss a photo op in the well-known Picture Rock, where snapshots of your family through the naturally-eroded hole in the giant boulder make for a fun activity for kids. A quick walk from the parking area will get you to the falls to witness the cascading water, but little room to sit and relax leaves most visitors only packing a camera and perhaps some water.

Parents are advised to keep kids close as the Falls features a steep drop, but this natural wonder should be on any family’s list of things to do with kids in Boulder, Colorado.

Scott Carpenter Park

Widely known for its skate park, this Boulder city park offers a wide range of kids activities in one place. Playgrounds, an outdoor pool, baseball fields, and unique “street course” give skateboarders, scooter riders and bicycle riders places to go (arrive early to avoid more experience skaters) and have fun on rails, curbs and bowls. When it snows, the park is a winter wonderland for sledding and tubing.

Other activities for kids include a three-story spaceship to explore, plenty of space to run, and shaded picnic tables. The park itself is free, but the pool can be enjoyed for a small fee.
