This state fair dates back to the days when Arizona was still a territory, and while it has all the modern family fun you expect — it hasn’t forgotten its roots.
Arizona State Fair
Dating back to 1884, back when Arizona was still a territory and not yet a state, the Arizona State Fair has been entertaining and delighting folks of all ages in the Grand Canyon State. From its humble beginnings as the Arizona Territorial Fair, featuring horse, pony, and mule races as well as agricultural and home economics exhibits to its modern day form, it has been the main fall attraction for families in the state for over 100 years.
Now spanning three weeks at the end of October and beginning of November, the fair still features livestock and agricultural exhibits in addition to art and photography shows, big name concerts (admission to most concerts is free with your fair admission!), shows of every imaginable type, and — of course — all kinds of foods that are bad for you (and the kind of rides that make you wish you had never eaten them).
All of this fun is smack dab in one place on the fairgrounds, conveniently located right at the junction of I-10 and I-17 with easy access and plentiful parking. Featured shows, concerts, and exhibits change from year to year, so be sure to check the website for the most up to date info, and keep in mind that the fair is closed on Monday and Tuesday, so plan your visit accordingly.
