This gem of a zoo might just be Tucson‘s best kept secret — a paradise for animal lovers of all ages!
Reid Park Zoo, Tucson
The Reid Park Zoo — located right smack dab in the heart of Tucson — began in 1965 with nothing but some birds, prairie dogs, farm animals, and a handful of squirrel monkeys. Since then it has grown to over 17 acres, housing hundreds of animals, and hosts over 500,000 visitors in an average year.
The animals you can find here include an African lion, zebras, giraffes, polar bears, and many more. You can even hand feed the giraffes! In addition to the animals, there’s a train to take you around the zoo grounds, the Kenya Get Wet interactive wet play area, and the Wild Ideas exhibit — where you can find more animals and hands on exhibits.
The zoo is located between Broadway Boulevard and 22nd Street on Randolph Way, just 2.5 miles east of I-10, and is open year ’round, except for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Reid Park is also home to the Tucson Toros minor league baseball team, so during the summer you can take in a game, too!
