Head to the beautifully decorated Museum of Science and Industry to learn about how cultures from around the world celebrate their holiday traditions.
Christmas Around the World
This holiday you should add the annual Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Light event at Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry to your calendar. Adorned with over 30,000 lights and 1,000 ornaments, the museum’s 45-foot tree will be a focal point in the main hall as visitors enter. A true spectacle, it will be surrounded by 50 smaller trees decorated by members of Chicago‘s ethnic communities to reflect their culture’s holiday traditions. This year’s theme focuses on the holiday history of the White House, with White House themed ornaments and cards signed by presidents and first ladies hanging from the main tree.
As you make your way through the beautifully decorated museum and stroll through the trees, you’ll encounter holiday chorus and dance groups, performances on the holiday stage and even intermittent “snow” showers. You can even visit the holiday shoppe to buy handcrafted ornaments.
Fun for all ages, you and your family can gain a rich cultural experience while getting in the holiday spirit at the Museum of Science and Industry this season. An event that began seventy years ago to salute America’s allies in World War II is now a beloved Chicago tradition that is sure to stay for many more years to come.
Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Light runs from Nov. 18, 2011- Jan. 8, 2012.
