If you are in San Antonio and looking for some of the best holiday lights in the area, you can’t miss the Windcrest Light-Up. Each year, residents of this small neighborhood go all out to compete with dazzling light displays that you have to see to believe.
Windcrest Light-Up
Thousands of visitors flock to Windcrest each holiday season to see the Christmas lights. For decades, Windcrest has been one of the top spots in the San Antonio area to take your kids to see the holiday lights. Windcrest residents decorate their homes with spectacular displays of lights and festive holiday characters. A contest is held to select the best decorated homes across various categories.
Located northeast of downtown, the city of Windcrest is considered part of the San Antonio metro area and the city itself has a total area of just 1.8 square miles. But don’t let its small size fool you — when it comes to holiday light displays, Windcrest is top-notch. Each year, the Windcrest Light-Up begins in mid-December and the lights illuminate the neighborhood through New Year’s Eve. Amazingly, 2011 marks the 53rd year for this annual holiday celebration.
Residents and visitors are invited and encouraged to drive along Windcrest neighborhood streets to view the festive holiday lights. Maps are made available to the public at Windcrest City Hall. If you are looking for a place to really wow the kids this holiday season, don’t miss the Windcrest Light-Up. Year after year, the dazzling lights in this area never disappoint.
