For one weekend, the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens becomes a winter wonderland under a blanket of white.
Snow Days at the L.A. Zoo
Bundle up and take your family on a journey to the snow in the heart of Southern California! Five of the zoo’s habitats — the snow leopards, tigers, bears, ibex and takin — will have their exhibits made over with snow. But, worry not! Other animals throughout the zoo won’t be left out of the winter fun. Many zoo residents will receive snow treats and ice pops filled with food for enrichment throughout the day.
The Zoo’s Snow Days are unique, offering the chance for your family to learn about how animals adapt to different environments and changes in the climate. Plan your visit for early in the day when the animals are most active, which is your best bet for seeing the animals interact with the snow.
In addition, the Snow Princess will be meeting and greeting visitors in the children’s zoo from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. She’ll be reading stories to the children and offering plenty of photo opportunities, so don’t forget to bring your cameras!
The next flurry of snow is set to fall Nov. 19 and Nov. 20, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., but this arctic event occurs a few times per year, so check the zoo’s calendar for the current schedule.
