In the fall months, the Mikles Family Farm becomes a destination for family fun for those in and around Shawnee, Oklahoma. While you won’t find high-tech rides or multi-million dollar attractions, the wholesome experiences can help bring your family together as you enjoy what this farm has to offer.

The Mikles Family Farm opens to the public on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays beginning in October. We recommend arriving after sundown to take advantage of the cool weather in addition to the peace and quiet. Admission starts at less than $7, while children under 2 get in free.

The price of admission includes unlimited trips on the hayride and unlimited adventures through the mazes (there is a five-acre maze and a smaller maze that is more appropriate for children). Kids can also play with the farm animals, frolic in the pumpkin patch, run around on the sand pile and get one free ride on the barrel train. Additional barrel train rides are only $1.

If you are planning to visit for any length of time — and we recommend that you do — it’s best to call ahead and reserve a campfire. For $25, you get a campfire, a picnic table and a picnic bench. You’re allowed to bring your own food, so take a few roasting sticks along with marshmallows, graham crackers, chocolate and whatever else you’d like to make your own s’mores! For extra seating, many families bring a couple blankets or lawn chairs.

While campfires are fun, they aren’t for everyone. The Mikles Family Farms have picnic tables on a first-come, first-serve basis — or you can simply call ahead and reserve a picnic table for $10. The farm gets busy, especially around Halloween, so it’s best to pay the money for the reservation.

Before you leave, be sure to pick out your pumpkins. The pumpkins are still on the vine and the price is very reasonable — less than 50 cents per pound. If you want to celebrate Halloween without the fright and costumes, or enjoy any other fall event, don’t forget about the Mikles Family Farm.
