The Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead takes you back to what farm life used to be about in the early 1900s. From the old buildings, which include a country schoolhouse and an Indian encampment, to the old farm tools and machinery, you and your family will feel like you’ve taken a trip back in time.

Family farms are becoming a thing of the past in Kansas and elsewhere around the country. This farmstead allows you to take get a hands-on, fun-filled farming experience. The Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead is open from the first week of April until the last week of October. We recommend visiting during the week. Not only can you avoid the crowds, but admission is free! On the weekends, it costs $2 to get in. The typical hours of operation are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

When you first arrive, sign up for a historical tour. This tour is led by a knowledgeable staff member and is a great way to learn about everything on the Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead premises and the history of the area. From there, your family has a lot of options for what to do next. The farmstead has a fishing pond, mining activities, wagon rides, pony rides and a history museum, with the fishing pond being especially popular among children and adults.

The wildlife around the Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead is spectacular and easily accessible. There are more than 200 different domesticated animals, a flower garden, a vegetable garden and many different kinds of wild creatures. If you or your children want to get even closer to the animals, you can pay extra to give a bottle to the baby goats, milk the cows or feed many of the other types of animals.

Food and drinks aren’t allowed into the farmstead so it’s advisable to eat before you go or visit one of the many food stands. You can stop by the ice cream parlor, in addition to a shop that sells everything from hot dogs to peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
