When the sun gets too strong, when the beach gets too sandy, when the wind gets too windy, you need something else. Something different. Something just plain fun. You need Adventureland.
Adventureland Rhode Island
A day at Adventureland is a day of old-time fun. Sure, the arcade games are computerized — but other than that, Adventureland is all about active, de-wired, fun and family bonding. Rediscover your love of bumper boats as you introduce your kids to them — and find out if your daughter has a major league swing at the batting cages.
The mini golf has a nautical theme — this is coastal Rhode Island, after all. No golf shoes required for this green, either! Flip flops are fine (anything more and you might be overdressed). But just like a “real” golf course, there are water hazards and challenging golf situations. An uphill putt? What?
Test your driving skills at the go karts. In fact, you might want to bring your teenager here to find out if he or she is at all ready for that learner’s permit. There are double-cars available for a parent riding with a child — and definitely bragging rights for the family winner.
Younger kids will love the carousel with the beautiful, painted carousel and other rideable creatures, and the pavilion houses arcade games to keep the gamers happy for hours — as long as the quarters hold out. There are retro games and air hockey — and cotton candy and popcorn for those who get hungry from all that button and throttle action. End your trip to Adventureland with delicious, local ice cream — Burdick’s. Yum.
Since so much of the adventure is outdoors, dress and plan for the weather. Kids do need to be a certain height to get on bumper boats and go-karts, or they can ride with an adult.
Adventureland is located in Narragansett, slightly away from the primary Rhode Island tourist areas, but it is a worth a trip over the Newport and Jamestown bridges, or down and off of I-95 to get there for a day of family fun and bonding.
