Families all over New England have been visiting Lake Compounce for generations upon generations. This family theme park has a history that dates back nearly 170 years. In fact, it’s among the oldest amusement parks in the United States.
Lake Compounce Family Theme Park
Despite its age, Lake Compounce remains a family-friendly destination that offers everything from breathtaking thrills to memorable live shows. The main attractions of Lake Compounce are their legendary roller coasters. Boulder Dash is considered one of the best wooden roller coasters in the world. The Wildcat is a roller coaster that has been around for more than 80 years, while Zoomerang features an exhilarating 125-foot drop.
During the summer months, Lake Compounce’s water rides are a big hit. With countless rides, you and your family could spend all day at this part of the amusement park. From the thrilling Riptide Racer to the enjoyable Lazy River, you’ll find plenty of wet fun.
The history of Lake Compounce is felt most in the park’s classic rides. There is a trolley that is more than 100 years old, a sky ride that overlooks the entire area and an antique carousel.
If you have little children, you’ll be glad to know that there are numerous entertaining kiddie rides throughout the amusement park. Additionally, many of the live shows are specifically for a younger audience.
In the past, you were able to bring your own food to Lake Compounce. However, that’s no longer the case. Fortunately, they offer plenty of dining options. You can find typical amusement park food such as funnel cake, ice cream and snow cones. If your family wants a sit-down meal, there are a few cafes that offer restaurant-quality food.
When visiting Lake Compounce, plan to stay the entire day. Since the regular price for admission is around $37, you’ll need plenty of time to make sure you get your money’s worth. For that reason, and to avoid long lines at the popular rides, we recommend arriving early in the day. If you plan to visit more than a couple times per year, be sure to invest in season passes.
