Picking out one baby name is a feat that can bring new parents to their breaking point. Don’t believe us? Take a look at all the “Am I The A—hole?” submissions on Reddit that revolve around baby name drama alone. So when twins are on the way, it [understandably] becomes twice as hard to land on the right names. (And then there’s the fallout if a new mom chooses to give her twin sons true crime-related names … IYKYK).
And while parents of twins do not need to consider Baby A’s name when figuring out Baby B’s (choose whatever speaks to you!), it is sort of nice when there’s a sense of harmony between the siblings’ names.
When searching for baby name ideas for twins, we turned to the dozens of celebrities who have welcomed twins over the years. And boy, are they a treasure trove of inspiration. Whether they chose a set of perfectly paired alliterations, monikers with touching familial roots, or names that have special underlying connections, we love these names that fit so well together for twins. Plus, they’re a great starting point if you’re picking out names for triplets, quadruplets, or more!
Below, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite sets of names that celebrities gave to their twins. You’ll find a mix of “traditional” names that repeatedly hit Most Common Name lists, incredibly unique ones that you might be hearing for the first time, and everything in between. Hopefully, these marvelous matching monikers will get your own gears turning. Happy naming!
Francesca Farago & Jesse Sullivan
Too Hot to Handle’s Francesca Farago and Jesse Sullivan welcomed fraternal twins Poetry Lucia and Locket Romance in Nov. 2024. “I’ve never been more in love but I’ve also never had more anxiety😅 they’re perfect😭🤍✨,” Farago wrote in the birth announcement.
Soon after, Sullivan — who is also dad to 16-year-old son Arlo Bear — shared more insights into the unique names on TikTok.
“I gave Francesca a golden locket with Arlo, our dog, and our cats’ pictures inside on our very first Valentine’s Day,” he said. “We fell in love with the name Locket. We said this really early on that if we ever have a kid, we want to name him or her Locket.”
“We just loved the name Romance,” he continued, referring to his son’s middle name. “It was so beautiful and cool and badass. So we thought that Locket Romance just sounds like the coolest guy you’ve ever met.”
As for their daughter, they thought the feeling you get when you hear or say “Poetry” is “so beautiful.”
“And she’s so beautiful, so it fits her,” the proud dad said. “We like names that feel romantic in general. Lucia, her middle name, is Francesca’s mom’s name.” Lucia is a stunning Italian name that means “light.”
Gabourey Sidibe
Precious actress Gabourey Sidibe welcomed twins Cooper “Coop” and Maya with her husband Brandon Frankel in April 2024. “Cooper” has English and American origins and means “barrel maker,” while “Maya” has Latin, Spanish, and American origins and often means “Daughter of Atlas.”
In June 2024, Sidibe revealed that Frankel always wanted to be able to use the nickname “Coop” and that they chose the name “Maya” shortly before their babymoon to the Mayan Riviera.
“Both twins have traditional West African middle names after members of my family,” she added while keeping their middle names under wraps.
Sarah Herron
In July 2024, The Bachelor alum Sarah Herron welcomed fraternal twinsEverette Rae and Colette Rose. Are those not the most stunning, Pinterest-perfect names you’ve ever heard? “Everette” typically means “brave” — a great name for a little girl born 7 weeks early — and “Rae” means “Doe.” Meanwhile, “Colette” means “victorious” and “Rose” means … well, you know.
In April 2024, Herron shared her friend’s advice for picking out baby names.
“She told me the true litmus test for how you feel about a name is to use it next time you order at Starbucks. Or, stand in your backyard and shout the name out like you’re calling the kids to dinner. How does it make you feel to say it out loud?”
Doing this exercise “immediately took 99.9% of the names” Herron thought she liked off the list. The mom of two then gave her own two cents.
“If you don’t feel connected to ANY names during your pregnancy, that’s OK too,” Herron said. “It does not mean you aren’t connected to your babies. It will all come as it’s supposed to. And at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks about the name you choose for your baby.”
Lisa Marie Presley
In 2008, the late Lisa Marie Presley welcomed twin daughters Harper and Finley with then-husband Michael Lockwood. The daughter of Elvis Presley also shared kids Benjamin (1992-2020) and Riley (b. 1989) with ex-husband Danny Keough. The twins are looking more like their mom every day, and we love their simple, gender-neutral names.
“Harper” has English and American origins and means “harpist” (how fitting given her late grandfather’s musical prowess!). “Finley” has Irish and American origins and means “fair hero.”
Nick Cannon
You probably know that Nick Cannon has 12 kids, but did you know that there are two sets of twins among the dozen kiddos? In 2011, he welcomed Moroccan and Monroe with ex-wife Mariah Carey, and in 2021, he welcomed Zion and Zillion with ex Abby De La Rosa.
In 2024, the actor shared that “Moroccan” had a special meaning because he and Carey were “big fans” of Moroccan culture and because “it kinda sounded like ‘Mariah’ and ‘Nick’ together.”
As for “Monroe,” which typically has nature-related meanings, that came about because Carey is a “huge” Marilyn Monroe fan. “When I said, ‘We can call ’em Roc and Roe,’ it just stuck,” Cannon admitted.
As for “Zion” and “Zillion” (can you tell Cannon likes a good alliteration?), the latter means “monument” and the second is a word invented during the 1940s to mean a large, unspecified sum.
Madonna
Madonna is a proud mom of six. In 2017, the legendary singer adopted twin girls Estere and Stella from Malawi, and the names are so complementary and chic. “Stella” is a popular French, Latin, Swedish, and American baby name that means “star.” Meanwhile, “Estere” is a form of “Esther” which also means “star!”
Michael Turchin & Lance Bass
Lance Bass and Michael Turchin welcomed Violet Betty and Alexander James via surrogate in Oct. 2021. The timeless names have an air of quiet luxury that is entirely en vogue.
Kristen Wiig
After hinting that motherhood was on the horizon for her during an SNL monologue in May 2020, Kristen Wiig and her husband Avi Rothman welcomed twins via surrogate in Feb. 2021. Wiig first revealed her kids’ names in the credits of her movie, Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar.
In the “Special Thanks” section, “Luna & Shiloh” were credited after Rothman. Talk about a cool reveal!
“Luna” traditionally means “moon” and, in mythology, is one of the names of Artemis the moon goddess. (Not too shabby!) Meanwhile, “Shiloh” has an equally tranquil yet powerful meaning: “peace and abundance.”
George Clooney & Amal Clooney
George Clooney and Amal Clooney joined the twin club in 2017 when they welcomed Ella and Alexander. The names mean “all” and “defender of man” respectively. Given the A-listers’ commitment to humanitarian efforts, the monikers they gave their twins feel quite fitting.
In 2021, the Ocean’s Eleven star told AARP that he and his wife intentionally chose a more traditional route.
“I didn’t want, like, weird-ass names for our kids,” Clooney said. “They’re already going to have enough trouble. It’s hard being the son of somebody famous and successful.”
Garcelle Beauvais & Mike Nilon
Garcelle Beauvais and ex-husband Mike Nilon chose the alliteration route when they welcomed twin sons Jax and Jaid in 2007.
“Jax” has various origins and is thought to mean “God has been gracious.” Meanwhile, “Jaid” (or the female “Jaida“) often refers to the gemstone jade or the color green.
Stephen Moyer & Anna Paquin
These True Blood co-stars-turned-married couple welcomed fraternal twins Poppy and Charlie in 2012. We love a set of rhyming, gender-neutral names for fraternal twins. Moyer inadvertently revealed their names nine months after their birth when he said his and Paquin’s firstborn daughter, Lilac, was headed off to camp so he would be “hanging out with Charlie and Poppy” for Father’s Day.
Jamie Anne & Marshall Allman
Actors Jamie Anne and Marshall Allman welcomed Oliver and Asher in Jan. 2013 after a “horrible” pregnancy and emergency C-section.
“They opened me up and Asher came out, then Oliver,” the star of The Killing told Us Weekly. “I heard them cry and I looked over at Marshall to see what he was thinking. He looked at me and said, ‘It’s amazing.'”
After overcoming so much, it’s so special that the couple has one son whose name means “happiness” and another whose name means “peace.”
Jeffrey Tambor & Kasia Ostlun
While playing a set of twins in Arrested Development Jeffrey Tambor and his wife Kasia Ostlun welcomed twins Hugo Bernard and Eli Nicholas in Oct. 2009. The boys joined big siblings Eve and Gabriel and their adult half-sister Molly Tambor.
Tambor and Ostlun picked short but mighty first names for their twins. “Hugo” has many origins and means “thinker” or “intelligent,” while “Eli” means “ascended, exalted, or defender of man.”
Rodney Peete & Holly Robinson Peete
Holly Robinson Peete has an extraordinarily special relationship with her twins Ryan and Rodney “RJ” Jr. They’re not just two of the four kids she shares with her husband Rodney Peete, but they’re her colleagues. The twins were born in 1997, and RJ was later diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. In 2016, the Chicago Fire star and her twins co-authored the young adult novelSame But Different: Teen Life on the Autism Express.
Of course, RJ was named after his dad — a retired NFL player whose name fittingly means “famous.” Meanwhile, “Ryan” is equally esteemed and means “little king” or “kingly.”
Julia Roberts & Daniel Moder
Julia Roberts and Danny Moder welcomed fraternal twins Phinnaeus Walter and Hazel Patricia in 2004, and they might have the most interesting name story of all. When Roberts was filming Eat, Pray, Love, she became a practicing Hindu, and Swami Daram Dev, the president of the ashram in Pataudi, reportedly gave them new names.
“Julia came to seek my blessings and I told her to learn good things about Indian culture,” he told Times of India. “I said that your children should have new names. I named her twins Hazel and Phinnaeus as Lazmi and Ganesh while [her youngest] Henry will now be called Krishn Balram.”
“She repeated the names after me and assured that she will call them by their new names and said that she will try her best to learn about our culture.”
Around the same time, Roberts appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman and explained how she and Moder chose the names.
“Hazel is an old-fashioned name, and she’s a strong, perfect Hazel,” she said, per People.
As for their son, “My husband wanted to name him Finn, which I quite liked, but it seemed like a nickname,” Roberts reportedly said on Live with Regis and Kelly. “So I said we had to have a proper name, and then we can call him Finn.”
Marcia Cross & Tom Mahoney
Quantico‘s Cross and husband Tom Mahoney welcomed twin daughters Eden and Savannah in 2007, and we love the nature theme.
After all, “Eden” can be attributed to the biblical Garden of Eden and “Savannah” can mean “from the open plain.” Intentional or otherwise, both girls were named after beautiful landscapes.
Mary Stuart Masterson & Jeremy Davidson
Actress Mary Stuart Masterson was 44 years old when she announced she was expecting twins with Jeremy Davidson. At the time, they were already parents to a 17-month-old baby boy.
In 2011, the couple welcomed fraternal twins Wilder and Clio. Not only do their son and daughter’s names just sound so natural together, but they can both have joyous meanings. Of course, “Wilder” can be a carefree state of being, and “Clio” means “celebrate.”
Michael Strahan
Retired NFL player and Good Morning America co-host Michael Strahan shares twin daughters Sophia and Isabella (b. 2004) with ex-wife Jean Muggli. The melodic pairing means “wisdom” and “devoted to God” respectively.
Molly Ringwald & Panio Gianopoulos
Sixteen Candles’ Molly Ringwald and her husband Panio Gianopoulos welcomed Adele and Roman in 2009. The two nuggets joined big sister Mathilda.
“Adele” and “Roman” have powerful meanings both in a literal and sentimental sense. “Adele” means “noble,” and she is reportedly named after Ringwald’s mom, Adele Frembd. “Roman,” meanwhile, means “strong” and “powerful.”
Stanley Tucci
Stanley Tucci and his late wife Kathryn Louise Spath welcomed Isabel Concetta and Nicolo Robert in 2000. The beloved actor shares a third child with his late wife and two kids with wife Felicity Blunt. All five Tucci kids have strong Italian names. (Go figure!)
“Nicolo” means “victorious” and “conqueror of the people,” and “Isabel” means “God of plenty.”
Steve Howey & Sarah Shahi
Person of Interest star Sarah Shahi and Steve Howey welcomed Violet Moon and Knox Blue in 2015, five years after welcoming their son William.
In 2016, Howey told People they “went through a bunch of different names” before choosing “Moon” as Violet’s middle name.
“Moon is the English translation of Sarah’s mom’s name,” the Shameless star told the outlet. “[We] were going to name her Moon, but we decided that was better as a middle name. We liked Ruby and Olive — we liked colors for a girl — and then I came up with Violet.”
As for their son, Howey thinks “Knox” — which means “from the hills” — is “old timey.”
“Names are tough because one person loves it and another person hates it, but these kids were not going to be named Steve or Michael or anything like that,” Howey said.
Rebecca Romijn & Jerry O’Connell
In 2008, actors Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell brought home Dolly Rebecca Rose and Charlie Tamara Tulip, and we think there’s a lot to love about these names. Both daughters have a floral second middle name, Dolly‘s first middle name seems to be in honor of her mom, and we adore a set of rhyming names for twins.
Bode Miller & Morgan Beck Miller
Bode and Morgan Miller welcomed twin boys — Asher and Aksel — at home in 2019. The boys made quite the entrance into the world. Bode had to deliver them with the help of his mom after Morgan unexpectedly went into labor at home while their midwives were stuck in traffic. Meanwhile, Bode’s dad was making a Costco run. (Of all things!)
The boys joined older brothers Edward and Easton (more alliteration siblings!). Tragically, the Millers’ daughter Emeline died in a drowning accident a year before her baby brothers’ birth. After such a heartbreaking loss, we were happy to see another celebrity couple choose names that mean “happiness” and “peace.”
Jwan Yosef & Ricky Martin
Along with kids Lucía and Renn, Ricky Martin and Jwan Yosef welcomed twin boys Valentino (which means brave or strong) and Matteo (which means gift of God) in 2008. The way the Italian names click together is just *chefs kiss*.
Beyoncé & Jay-Z
Did you really think we could have a list of best twin names and not include Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s twins born in 2017, Rumi and Sir?
In an interview with Rap Radar, Jay-Z explained how he and Queen Bey chose the ultra-majestic names.
“Rumi is our favorite poet, so it was for our daughter,” the “Empire State of Mind” rapper said. “Sir was like, man, come out the gate. He carries himself like that. He just came out, like, ‘Sir.'”
