If you have a grandbaby on the way, your kids are probably spending ages looking at baby name trends and waiting for inspiration to strike. There are probably text threads and Pinterest boards that they’ve dedicated solely to picking out the little one’s moniker. And, for some families, there’s baby name drama brewing.
But don’t forget that the baby isn’t the only one who needs a name. After all, it’s time for you to start thinking about what you want your grandparent nickname to be.
Of course, you might just want to stick with the tried and true “Grandma” or “Grandpa.” (They’re classics for a reason!) But if you want to branch out and go for something with a little more of a Wow Factor, why not look to the stars? There are a lot of extremely cool celebrity grandparents with equally cool grandparent names. We’ve compiled a list of the best nicknames for celebrity grandparents to give you (or the soon-to-be grandparent in your life) some much-needed inspiration.
Just remember what they say about best-laid plans: Sometimes your little munchkin will have a mind of their own — or a little mouth that just isn’t ready to pronounce the name you’ve chosen for yourself. And so, after all that thinking and hand-wringing, you might be dubbed with a name that’s totally out of left field. Try not to let it tear you down if they don’t agree to call you “Lovey” like Kris Jenner’s grandkids call her or “Peach” like Martin Sheen’s grandkids call him. Sometimes the unexpected moniker from a little cutie is even more special and meaningful.
Randi Mahomes
After Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Mahomes welcomed their third child, Patrick’s mom Randi Mahomes revealed her beyond-perfect nickname. Caitlyn Jenner: Boom Boom
Former Olympian and TV personality Caitlyn Jenner revealed in 2019 that her grandkids call her “Boom Boom.”
“They’ve come up with ‘Boom Boom,’ it kinda stuck, it was easy for them to say,” Jenner said on an episode of I’m a Celeb, per TheMirror. “[Kylie Jenner’s daughter] little Stormi is like, ‘Boom Boom!… Boom Boom’s here!'”
“Boom Boom” has 23 grandkids from her six children and four step-kids.

As for Terri, she’s affectionately known as “Bunny.” It’s so perfect that the infamous Australia Zoo conservationist is named after an endearing animal.
Katie Couric: Gogo
When Katie Couric announced her first grandson’s arrival in a heartwarming post on Katie Couric Media, she revealed her new name.
“For now, I am Gogo,” she wrote. “My sister’s nickname is Kiki, so I couldn’t choose that. I felt like everyone is Gigi — and while that was going to be my name, I decided on Gogo after a friend told me that was what she used.”
” … Plus, it seemed fitting, because I’m like the Energizer Bunny, always on the go-go,” she continued. ” … For now, Gogo it is. But this boy can call me whatever he wants.”
Queen Elizabeth II: Granny
If you don’t want to step too far out of the grandparent box, but you want something that’s guaranteed to make you a regal matriarch, go for “Granny.” That’s what Queen Elizabeth II’s grandkids and great-grandkids called the late monarch when they weren’t referring to her as “Your Majesty.”

Susan Sarandon: Honey
… That’s because Sarandon is known as “Honey.”
“I borrowed this name from a very dear friend of mine who’s from the South, and his grandma was ‘Honey,’” the actress told People when her daughter Eva Amurri was expecting her first child. “That’s what I’m experimenting with, and Eva likes it, so we’ll see.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger: Opa
In the same vein, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s granddaughters call him “Opa,” the German word for grandfather. Schwarzenegger is the proud “Opa” to daughter Katherine Schwarzenegger‘s daughters Lyla and Eloise.
Blythe Danner: Lalo
Gwyneth Paltrow’s mother Blythe Danner was at the mercy of her granddaughter Apple Martin when it came to her grandma nickname. Danner told People in 2015 that she wanted to be like her parents who had special nicknames. But when she ran her list by Apple — who had just started to talk — her eldest of four grandkids said no.
“I said, ‘Well, who am I then?’ And she said ‘Lalo’ and laughed and laughed,” Danner said. “So about an hour later I said ‘Who am I?’ and she said ‘Lalo.'”
“I’m glad she made it up,” she continued. “It’s creative and she likes knowing that she created it.”
Demi Moore: Yaya
Demi Moore had a proud grandma moment on the 2025 Golden Globes red carpet. While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, the Golden Globe winner said her granddaughter Louetta calls her “Yaya.” (Again, going for Greek!)

Goldie Hawn & Kurt Russell: Gogo & Gogi
Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell had their grandparent nicknames ready long before their kids started welcoming babies.

Snoop Dogg: Papa Snoop
As for the infamous D-O-Double-G? His eldest grandkid had the job of naming him.
“He used to call me ‘Papa Noop’ because he couldn’t say ‘Snoop,'” Snoop Dogg shared during an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show. “So he started calling me ‘Papa Noop.’ And then as time went by, he learned how to say ‘Snoop,’ so now I’m ‘Papa Snoop.'”
