There are a lot of really impressive things parents and children can both achieve. Perhaps none more impressive —and elusive — than both securing an Oscar nomination. (And, in some cases, even a win!) Sure, being a “nepo baby” helps, but even the cynics have to admit that takes some major talent.
In 2025 alone, there are two mother-daughter duos who have both been nominated. (Talk about serious girl power!) Of course, there is Fernanda Torres who was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in I’m Still Here. Her mom, Fernanda Montenegro, was nominated for the same award for her performance in the 1998 film Central Station. Plus, there’s Isabella Rossellini, who received her first Oscar nomination this year for her supporting role in Conclave. Her mom, Ingrid Bergman, won three Oscars and was nominated four other times.
Now, you might be thinking, “OK, but those [major!] accomplishments happened decades apart and — nepotism aside — aren’t all related.” Well, not only have parent-child duos been nominated in the same year, they’ve also been nominated for the same film! (We’re lookin’ at you, Henry and Jane Fonda and Diane Ladd and Laura Dern.)
Still not impressed? Hollywood has also seen families of multi-generational Academy Award nominees. (Shout out to the Coppola family!) And there are former nominees like Liza (“With a ‘Z!'”) Minnelli who was the product of two Oscar nominees.
Scroll on for more stunning examples of parents and children who have both earned Oscar nominations.
Henry Fonda & Jane Fonda
Henry Fonda and Jane Fonda are one of the most notable parent-child duos because they earned their nominations for the same film. The pair acted alongside each other in the 1981 film On Golden Pond (pictured). Henry — who had two previous nominations — won Best Actor in a Leading Role but was not in attendance at the 1982 ceremony. His daughter, who was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, accepted on his behalf.
Throughout her career, Jane has received seven nominations and two wins.
As if having one child who was also nominated for an Academy Award didn’t give Henry Fonda enough bragging rights, his son Peter Fonda also has two Oscar nominations: Best Original Screenplay for Easy Rider (1970) and Best Actor for his performance in Ulee’s Gold (1998).
Diane Ladd & Laura Dern
Diane Ladd and Laura Dern are in the same exclusive club as the Fondas. The mother and daughter acted alongside each other in the 1991 film Rambling Rose (pictured). Ladd was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role — a nomination she snagged two other times — and Dern was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role. The actress was also nominated for her performance in Wild (2015) and won for her performance in Marriage Story (2020).
Angelina Jolie & Jon Voight
Angelina Jolie and dad Jon Voight may have a notoriously estranged relationship, but they do have the special Oscar nomination bond. Jolie has one win — Best Supporting Actress for Girl, Interrupted (2000) — plus her nomination for Best Actress for her performance in Changeling (2009).
Meanwhile, Voight has three nominations — Midnight Cowboy (1970), Runaway Train (1986), and Ali (2002). He also won Best Actor in 1979 for his performance in Coming Home.
Fernanda Montenegro & Fernanda Torres
Fernanda Torres is following in her mom Fernanda Montenegro’s footsteps with her 2025 nomination for Best Actress for her performance in I’m Still Here. In 1999, Montenegro was up for the same award for her performance in Central Station.
Francis Ford Coppola & Sofia Coppola
Oscar night is a family affair for the Coppolas. Famed director and Kennedy Center honoree Francis Ford Coppola’s movies have a whopping 14 Oscar nominations, resulting in five wins. His daughter Sofia Coppola has two nominations and a win, all for the 2004 film Lost in Translation, and his son Roman Coppola has a nomination for Best Original Screenplay for Moonrise Kingdom (2012).
Francis Ford Coppola’s dad Carmine Coppola was a composer who won the Oscar for Best Music for The Godfather Part II and was nominated for the same award for The Godfather Part III.
Yes, that’s three generations of Coppolas with Oscar nominations!
Kirk Douglas & Michael Douglas
Kirk Douglas has three Oscar nominations from the 1950s plus an honorary award that was granted to him in 1996 for his decades as a “creative and moral force” in the film community, per IMDb. His son, Michael Douglas, won two Oscars: Best Picture for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1976) and Best Actor for his performance in Wall Street (1988).
Goldie Hawn & Kate Hudson
Legendary actress Goldie Hawn has two Oscar nominations to her name (including a win for Best Supporting Actress for Cactus Flower in 1970), and her daughter, Kate Hudson, was nominated in 2001 for Best Supporting Actress in Almost Famous.
Isabella Rossellini & Ingrid Bergman
In 2025, Ingrid Bergman snagged a nomination for Best Supporting Actress nomination for her role in Conclave, and perhaps she will continue to rack up nominations like her mom, Ingrid Bergman. Bergman has a total of seven nominations, which resulted in three wins. In 1955 and 1957, she won Best Actress for her work in Gaslight and Anastatsia respectively, and in 1957 and 1975 she won Best Supporting Actress for Murder on the Orient Express.
Janet Leigh & Jamie Lee Curtis
Janet Leigh earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Psycho (1961). More than 60 years later, her daughter Jamie Lee Curtis won that award for her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once (2023).
Liza Minnelli & Judy Garland
Judy Garland won an honorary Oscar — the Academy Juvenile Award — in 1940 for The Wizard of Oz and Babes in Arms. She was also nominated for her performance in A Star Is Born (1955) and Judgment at Nuremberg (1962).
Her daughter, Liza Minnelli, was nominated for Best Actress twice (for The Sterile Cuckoo in 1970 and Cabaret in 1973) and won for the second time around.
Vincente Minnelli & Liza Minnelli
Liza’s dad Vincente Minnelli also has two nominations for Best Director — and won in 1959 for Gigi.
