Have you ever appreciated teachers more than you do this year? And yet on this National Teacher Appreciation Day (or Teacher Appreciation Week, as some have made it), there is so much missing. For one thing, we’re not able to show our appreciation in person. Our school’s PTA normally puts together a huge lunch for the faculty and staff, with parents cooking (or buying) tons of delicious food to show them our thanks. For another, teachers are not getting to do what they love: being with our kids and watching those lightbulbs go off in their heads in the moment when all that instruction pays off. That is why they accept those ridiculously low teachers’ salaries. Instead, they’re struggling to learn an entirely new skill — online teaching — and many have to do so while teaching their own kids at home.
So, if you haven’t already, you need to be sending teachers some virtual form of your appreciation ASAP. Which, we totally get it if this has slipped by you. Even if you’re super grateful for your children’s teachers in this moment, you’ve probably been a tiny bit overwhelmed by, you know, some other things going on in your life. But you’re in luck. Ecards, normally reserved for procrastinators or casual acquaintances who never bothered to get their recipients’ addresses, are perfect for this moment.
Now, some of us associate virtual cards with annoying singing and bad Photoshop. There are still lots of those cards out there. But here we’ve managed to find options that are slightly less cheesy, but every bit as celebratory as you want them to be. They’ll probably cheer you up while you browse through them, too. Do that quickly, though. Your homework is due soon!

Rainbow of Gratitude
GreetingIsland.com has some of the most visually appealing ecard options. You can add photos and edit text with them, too.
The World Needs More
We love the global aesthetic and jaunty music of this video message. But don’t send this Hallmark card to the kind of teacher who will be bothered by a sentence ending in a preposition.
Apple for Teacher
You can edit this simple, pleasing card from Punchbowl with your own message, and even alter the font if you like. There’s also an option to add a digital gift card.
Thanks From the Whole Class
Kudoboard promises to be a replacement for when you get one big card and pass it around to everyone in a classroom or workplace. It allows every participant to add a message or photo, if they want.
Remember Blackboards?
Do any schools even use blackboards and chalk? There’s a nostalgic appeal to this animated American Greetings card, anyway.
Teachers Make a Difference
Heck, yeah, they do! This is a straightforward message that gets the job done. To send this or other Blue Mountain ecards, you’ll need a membership, but you can sign up for a seven-day free trial now.
… If Only to Look at Their iPads Instead
Someecards, known for their clever memes, have many other messages paired with vintage-ish illustrations. Some of them feel more relevant than others right now.
Thou Doth Rock
JibJab doesn’t have a teacher-appreciation card, per se, but it does offer plenty of options for thanks and appreciation. Send this silly Shakespearean puppet to an English teacher.
Canva Free & Premium Custom Designs
Design site Canva is free to join, with many of its customizable templates also available free of charge. You can add your own photos, text, videos, and music if you like, or choose from the library instead.
Adobe Spark Templates
Make like a graphic design pro and use Adobe to channel your creative idea. Fortunately, you don’t actually have to be a pro to use Adobe Spark’s free templates, which offer plenty of options for uploading your own photos.
Musical Thank Yous
Smilebox Thank Yous
Smilebox, a subscription card service, doesn’t have teacher-appreciation cards, specifically. There are so many pretty, animated thank you cards available for you to customize, however.
Evite Ease
Evite is mostly in the emailed invitation game, but they also have some lovely, customizable ecards. Many of them are also free at the moment, so if you already have an account, this is an easy option.
